Ohoy there guys!

Not very long ago i bought me a 2,8 patrol. This patrol is in pretty good condition thinking about the salty roads in norway in wintertime.. The frame is almost without rust, but the chassis have some minor spots
Right now I'm in the middle of rebuilding the knuckles, looking around for information about the preload on the knuckle bearings. I've demountet everything, washed and cleaned up, and startet mounting.

I bought a knuckle repair/build up kit from AU, with new seals and stuff. I've bought 3 kg grease for lubricating the cv joints, the bearings and everything else.;) In the demounting I wrecked the knuckle bearing plugs, and I wantet to do everything as easy as possible and just use what I have. But I read online that I really should use these caps/plugs, so I ended up ordering these from nissan. About $40 AU EACH! That's pretty expensive from my point of view! wellwell.. That's pretty much how far I've came by now.

I'll try update later, add some pictures and alittle more info.

Regards,
Jakob

Sounds like it is going to be a nice little build up mate. Get used to the expense as its a patrol and built properly therefor its expensive, try and get the best you can afford to avoid having to do it again a year down the track. You are lucky as being a mech you won't have to pay for labour on top of the part. Good luck mate keep us posted on any developments.

Yea! I find it very nice to be able to fix the car myself. As you say, it keeps the cost down. :) And, I get experience at the same time, never been into 4x4's before :D

quick update! I was done with the front axle overhaul long time ago, and its now very good. The car is much better in the steering and there are no leaks from the front axle.

Now I'm thinking about changing oil and filter. Is it ok for me to use Castrol magnatec professional 10W-40? Api CF. I have to add that the temp here in norway can be between -20C and +30C. I'm not afraid of using 10W-40, but I want to be sure the api i right.
Here's a link to the oil:

Update!
The patrol has annoying sounds from the gearbox, so I will have to change the box. Used one in ok condition is bought. Also the cv joints in the front would probably need changing soon.
Turbo has alot of play in&out and up&down, so this has to be changed also. Used turbo in good condition is obtained. I've also got an exhaust manifold and an inlet manifold without egr that will be mounted. Then i don't have to block egr.

I want to mount a boost pressure gauge, but i don't know where to get through the wall between enginebay and the coupe. Any suggestions?
The patrol has also got 3" inch exhaust all the way from turbo now, and also intercooler with 2,5" inch pipes between turbo and inlet.

Pictures are coming.. :)

Edit: I also want to mount suspension lift kit. But I don't know what to change when lifting 7" inch for example. I've heard that 2" inch doesn't need anything else than springs, but 2+ needs more parts for the front axle. 7" inch would need almost the whole front axle rebuilt with special arms...? Help me guys! :D
