You can try Monte Villa Inn (Hoppers Crossing) used to be nice. Haven't been there for 10-15 yrs. still looks ok in the photos.

Hey Kallen, sorry mate I will be up the high country and the place is full other than some floor space mate.

Where abouts are you picking the bull bar up from mate?

How many in your family are traveling bud?

I would have thought $200 was ridiculous mate.

You could get you quite a nice hotel room for that kind of money.
Check Wotif for last minute specials. Can normally get a 4 1/2 star hotel for about a hunj on Wotif...
When are you going to be here?

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....

You should be able to get a cabin in a caravan park down in Geelong or Ballarat for around $80.

Where would you prefer to stay - around Melbourne itself?

Well the bull bar and hopefully roof rack will be at Mego's, but we will be doing the aquarium (or zoo) aswell while over.
So that's why were including Geelong Ballarat in the mix. Its on our way across so no biggie really..

It'll be the 4 of us plus trailer.

Wife has been using stayz.com.au. everything is reasonable during the week, but come the weekend bang up they go..

Will pass on the details to the wifey.
Cheers guys

The aquarium is killer mate.. not bad but for $100 for the family and seeing as the holidays will have started it will be crazy.

Those prices really are stupid... I could stay at a top place at Lakes Entrance for that?

Cheap fun if heading back down the Geelong road is the Point Cook museum and is a gold coin entry.

See how ya go??

Do it once in your life but thats it.... unless you got money to burn and you like to get stoned off your tits and stare at fish!!!

The museum I am talking about is the RAAF one and you will go past it I think.

Hi Kallen,

Sorry can't recommend any places in Ballarat as I haven't stayed at any but Welcome Stranger Big 4 have a good reputation. Prices range from $100 to $200 per night - https://www.big4.com.au/booking/welcome-stranger-holiday-park.aspx?ref=BIG4
Can highly recommend the Aquarium but I'm also a diver so interested in marine life. Took the grand kids there about 12 mths ago and they loved it. I'm still laughing at thier reaction to running up the darkened stairs and coming face to face with a two burqa clad women all in black, first ones they had ever encountered and thought it was the grim reaper.

Kallen,

As pointed out there are numerous Motels around Point Cook / Werribee area, as well as a caravan park, which may be a little cheaper, and they get you a little closer in.

I know you are only in a GQ, but watch the freeway between Geelong and Melbourne, as there are point to point speed cameras under some of the bridges. Snap, Snap, Snap....Stick to the speed limits.

The little ones are going threw a Nemo stage thus the aquarium visit.. Buy them a Nemo fish tank and go to Point Cook museum instead......win win for all, just don't tell the kids that sponge bob square pants aquariums are all the rage at the moment.

Agree with BA on the Melbourne Aquarium....Once and once only...Great experience but holy crap that is an expensive day out!!!

Check out Crown Casino, head down to StKilda, have a beer at the old Esplanade Hotel <---Spent many of days there!

If your at Geelong you may as well check out Torquay area and the Great Ocean Road....Go see the 12 apostles or whatever is left of them.....lol..... and then spend the coin and jump on the car ferry to Sorrento (straight across the bay). Go to Portsea and check out houses and lifestyles we can't afford, head up to Arthurs seat, awesome look outs over the bay. You could spend the night at Rosebud or Dromana too if you like.

Ashcombe maze (http://ashcombemaze.com.au/) is pretty cool for the kids too.
Arthurs Seat (http://www.visitmelbourne.com/Regions/Mornington-Peninsula/Destinations/Arthurs-Seat.aspx) is a cool view over the bay, check out the old chair left which nearly killed 5 people too...lol
Searoad car fairy (http://www.searoad.com.au/) from west to east...Queenscliff to Sorrento.

Werribee south has a caravan park.

Werribee zoo is great

Melbourne museum and the science works (Newport) is free for the kids - I usually take mine during the holidays

My kids love science works

You need to confirm what days point cook is open - its worth a visit - boys toys.

If you go over the bay consider going to Phillip island for the penguins (you can also see penguins at the St Kilda pier on duck - and VERY big water rats)
