Hey all, I am almost finished my conversion to a td42ti and as the fan was snapped on the td42ti i used the one from my rd28t but when i put my new pwr radiator in it sits too close, there is about 20mm gap.

Is there a difference between the TD42Ti and RD28T fan?

Does the RD28 fan sit closer to the rad than the td42?

If the answer is no then does anybody make a 'slim' fan? I dont want to go to thermo because of so many people having overheating issues.

Here is a pic for you

Yes the fans are different mate. The TD42Ti fan is a completely different design and works better than the fan you have pictured also quieter in operation. I can grab a pic of mine in the morning if you llike?

Here you go. Its a little hard to see cos of the shroud and larger radiator (which gives me less room). Looking at them now there might not be much difference, if you were to remove them i think there might be. Im pretty sure I still have more room than that though. How thick is the radiator?

The difference looks to be in the viscous hub mate. You can see the TD42Ti sits right over the hub back closer to the pulley.

Thanks mate, yeah I know what you mean about the viscous hub. My radiator is 55mm thick (PWR0381). What is your view on thermos? I have heard that they dont pull as much air through?

Out of interest, can you not put an electric fan on there instead,or do you guys prefer the original mechanical type?

That was my thought but I have read of so many cases where it just doesnt cut it, my worry is loss of cooling doing this

Yeah stick with the mechanical fan mate. You can go to twin thermos I space is restricted but I would recommend an alternator upgrade if you go in that direction.

As for the small vacuum switch you pictured this is for your idle control when the a/c is on. You can get away with not having this.

ok thanks. I dont really want to go towards thermos but if i do need to what alternator would you recommend? Sorry but this is my first patrol.

I don't know part numbers but something from 120-150A would be good. It's just if you plan to run spotties, thermos, a winch in the future etc and any other accessories the alternator will help your batteries.

Yeah I have three LED Light bars (24inch in the bullbar, 30 inch on the roof and a 8 inch at the back) and a new winch and also a cabin of upgrades too. Maybe even if I dont go thermos I might still upgrade my alternator. Hopefully I can keep the mechanical fan.

You should be able to keep the mechanical if you purchase a new Ti fan assembly. I have a radiator that thick in mine so it certainly fits.

Yeah thats it. Yet another part to buy lol

got me a new genuine fan. it sits a good 2-3 inches back. I prefer a mechanical one because I have heard so many bad stories of people running thermo fans and having overheating problems

What radiator cap is that? Have never seen one with a lever on it like that.

stant lever radiator cap. High pressure caps help to insure against overheating, and a lever allows you to vent pressure before removing the cap
