View Full Version : Any tips for resealing gutters?

Have just about finished fixing up the rust on the roof and the gutters. Was nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be. Anyways, is all primer'd and painted and ready for the gutters to be resealed. I have got some white Tiger seal to do the job. Are there any special tricks to applying it or do you just caulk it in and smooth over with a soapy finger?

you probably wont need soap. just a wet finger. It is Hydrophobic so will not mix with water and you can smooth it well as long as your finger is wet.

A few drops of liquid soap in your finger water will help

You can even apply it making sure there is a good seal then get a spray bottle with some detergent in it and spray over it then wipe off with your fingers. By spraying it it reduces/ stops it getting everywhere else.

Yeh ,i did my roof gutters 3 times after replacing the entire roof panel, twice with Sikaflex (BTW ,ive been using Sika for over 20 yrs ), then got the finish i was after with Soudaseal and the soapy finger water ;).........

Which 'flavour' of Sikaflex did you use. There seems to be quite a few different variants?

I also forgot to ask, how any cartridges of Sikaflex did you need per side? I'm hopeless at estimating and don't wanna run out half way down one side....

I'll answer this myself as I've just completed it. Takes about 75% of a cartridge to do one side and that was being pretty generous. So the back gutter would take about 50% of a tube. Which leaves me with 1 spare cartridge ($22 wasted... damn)
