G'Day all you Patrol nuts!

Thought I'd share my Patrol project that I'm about to build :)

As it sits now it's a 92 TB42E Ti manual (on gas/petrol :( ). Don't think it's lifted at all but it has OME shocks. I will fix all of this soon ;)

I've got a VX SS LS1 with 96,000 k's waiting to go in, and my adapter kit is on it's way from Marks 4WD Adapters.

As I build this beast up I will be updating this thread with step-by-step updates on what I'm doing. I've been unable to find a detailed build thread on an LS1 GQ so I think it's about time someone writes one up.

Haha, It's not as clean as she looks in the photos :P I should also add, I'm doing everything I possibly can myself, I'll be doing the wiring myself as well... . It will be a budget build and I'm hoping to get away with it for under $10K, price of the patrol and motor included hahaha. So far I'm up to $3k for the motor, the bellhousing kit, the engine mount kit and the alternator/AC relocation kit.

All this is going to be done in my back yard. I'm a production operator at the moment but will probably be starting a fitter and turner apprenticeship soon. I've done a couple of easy motor swaps before this, so this will be the biggest job yet :)

let me know if you need any information, and i'd strongly recommend an aftermarket wiring loom to save the hassle of messing around deleting the bcm loom and surprisingly, your engine bay will get cluttered very quickly with wiring. as you said there isn't a great deal of step by step information regarding the conversion, it is not as straight forward as you might think (like diff ratio's, exhaust selection, power steering pump modifications and lines, ecu mounting, alternator wiring, etc etc).. i made plenty of mistakes that cost a lot time to sort out, hopefully i may be able to save you the same headaches. i'm in the same boat, all the work done to my patrol was carried out myself at home (except tuning and 3.5" exhaust).

Cheers DC-Auto :) I think with the security removed from the ECU the BCM shouldn't be an issue? I'm kinda looking forward to giving the wiring a go still. Nothing better than connecting wires and turning that key and hearing it fire up haha (even if it does take a few goes lol) if I get stuck ill send you a PM for sure :)

Adapter kit rocked up yesterday, gotta get a sump, extractors and my gearbox freshened up and then it's go time!

Don't use a truck sump unless you buy it from Marks already Modified. It will still hit the tierod. I did, so now I'm just extending the bump stops so it doesn't hit.

I'm going to use a truck sump and mod it myself and only pay half of what marks are asking for the same thing haha. $800 is robbery!

When you've done yours, do ya want to do mine??? HAHAHAHA

Wouldn't be hard, ill be doing the cutting and just getting someone else to TIG it up. The front of the hump gets cut down and a plate welded at roughly 45 degrees. Also relocate the drain/sump plug. Have a look at the design on the Marks4WD site. ;)

you also have to mod the pick up

The sump comes with all the bits, pickup shouldn't be hard to mod, when I do it ill document it all so others can go down the same path :) if I can't heat it and bend it to the position I need I'll get it cut and shut by the local hose and fitting mob here. I can't see there being $450 worth of modifying there so I'll still be better off and I'm sure people will appreciate a write up on how to do it. :)
