Seriously though how often do you hear of people piercing their fuel tanks? I never have even heard of it. I like the idea of one filler neck and not having to switch tanks or put a pump in.

I already have a long range tank in mine and I picked up an 80L LRA aux tank on eBay a few months ago for $150. New they are over $1000. Will have 220L on board once its in.
Keep your eyes on eBay because they come up reasonably regularly.
The method nissan use is to pump from the Aux tank to the main tank, not draw separately so any advantage of having separate tanks is mainly lost. I intend to set mine up to draw from either. It's going to take some mucking around but it can be done. It's a bit easier with the EFI models because the pump is in the tank so there's less screwing around finding a location for the pump.
The main thing I need to do is work out how I deal with the gauge.

Look out for a sub tank on eBay, they come up for GQs all the time for bargains. Will give you 30lts cheap and keep it low and central.
A long range sub would be great and for the GQ come up often too. Gu not so often damnit!

Does that fit where the original tank fits or is it an extra?

Extra! That is a long range sub tank that is a belly tank and sits under the driver

I suppose a heavy bash plate would have to be installed under it.

That's one for the petrols.. diesels don't have in built pumps. Well the mighty 4.2 doesn't..
So that's $75 for the tank. What sorta price you looking at for the dual filler neck setup?
And electrical.. there are so many ways this can be done.. ranging from $50 - $300... Lol

Nah that send is the same for petrol and diesel. I have not read his add but don't need to, the send in the aux tank has a transfer pump only and transfers to the main tank.
You would need to sort a duo filler neck but would not be a big deal to sort.
An LRA belly rank is thick and does not need a bash plate. They are bloody strong!
I would not hesitate to bolt that up to the GQ if I needed the range. Score!

There is a previous thread on this somewhere and ChrisN has posted up the installation instructions in there. It has all the kit part numbers and everything for the hoses, fillers, bolts, etc.
I've got a mate who works at ARB and I'm going to ask him to get the installation kit from LRA for me.

Daz, I thought the EFI one had the pump in the tank where the diesel did not.
Mine has an EFI pump in it because it was used as a main tank with a Gas tank up the back.......apparently.

AB, even if it was from an EFI, it'll still be fine for you to use. At worst you'd have to change the sender.

I've got ya Mr. The stock Nissan setup has the pump in the tank as it pumps from aux to main, not aux to engine.

Sorry back.
Yes you would be right. If it was fitted as the only petrol tank in a dual fuel then it would run a different sender for sure. I am incorrect. If it was just set up as a long range sub tank it would ru. The original sender unit and would include a pump.
Maybe grab it and then swap senders with Drew as he wants to set his up to supply direct to the fuel pump.
Regardless a bargain it is!

Only the GU's had the Aux tank that pumped from that tank to the Main tank.
the GQ's Aux tank that was for Dual Fuel - it had the Pump in it, because with the gas, you needed to turn off the Petrol supply, which you cannot do with a Mechanical pump, but can with Electric.
so the Mechanical one on the ,otor is removed and "blanked off" and an Electric one fitted.
the tanks sold for GQ's as Aux Long Range didnt come with the pump, that was a separate item (like buying an ARB Locker, then having to buy the compressor afterwards)
for the easiest setup AB, take out your Mechanical fuel pump and fit an Electric one, and have it switched off a solenoid to go from one tank to another.
and do the same with the gauge to read from one tank to the other
(this is how I have had many setups with previous 4WDs.)
cheers

Fair dinkum mate.. That's a lot of head f'n around mate when you can simply fit either a 6 way valve solinode or 2 doubles so they just switch the sorce.. you can even just fit one and let the return fill the main... very easy to do and how most of them do it when a mechanical pump is used..
when you have a petty engine using electric fuel pumps then it may be simpler to fit a new pump, but even then I'd be going solinode's unless pump was in the tank...

I have a dual fuel with a 55 L tank under the driver (try contact LPG convertors for who sells these tanks)
I had to drop my tank, as the fuel line to the motor rubbed though a ridge of the body - and started leaking fuel.
When I refit - I will be fitting a plate over it as the tank has a couple of nice dings in it
