Morning all , iv recently done an economy test on my 2002 gu,It worked out at 14.2 litres per 100klms , this was a fair test over 325klm trip on open road averaging speeds 110 to 115k. Is this around average for the 2002 ,I thought this was a bit heavy.

Not sure my 02 GU I was able to stretch both main and subtank to just over 1000km all highway driving trips of 180km at a time. And that was before I got my intercooler and MAF sensor fixed! As well as the fuel light was on for around 30-40km but didn't want to push anymore.

And to fill from empty it cost me close to $165-$170 dollars roughly.
Not sure how to work out the fuel per km thing

Sporter,

This depends on your vehicle, size of tyres, accessories, driving style, etc.

It can be very subjective also, as a lot of people tend to underquote what they are actually using, by either not knowing how to calculate it properly, or not filling BOTH tanks to the same level before reading results.

Hey mate I got a 2004 3 L Auto and I get 12's around town and 11's to 12's on highway. These are pretty standard figures for 2.4 tonnes of weight. Slow down a bit to say a 100 to 105 kph and you'll use heaps less juice. Most of the fuel is used to push the air out of the way, and when you get a patrol over 100 it starts to really work hard and burn more. So slow down enjoy the view and save at the pump!!!

I'm currently getting less than 7.5lt per 100km in my 2013 Y61 Patrol, Diesel, Manual.

I'd suggest there is something wrong with your maths/calculator there. In any case once the bullbar, snorkel roof rack are fitted watch the fuel consumption going AWOL.
Cheers

Might need to double check your calcs there mate. Find it very difficult to believe you are getting those kind of figures.

I reckon you have figured to kms per litre = 7.5km/lt

so the math is 7.5/100 = 13.33lts per 100kms

hey mate , thats works out at about 13lt per 100klms, pretty sure main an sub hold 130 litres all up

The main tank is 95lt standard and the sub tank is 30lt from factory.

The sub tank does not supply the fuel pump but rather is transferred to the main tank via an inline pump that completely empties the tank.

Really your best bet to get an average it to monitor over the next few full tanks what your usage is on average.

I Always, Always run both tanks to empty and wait for my fuel light to come on. I alway press my odometer when i fill up and i alway take note of exactly the odometer when the fuel light comes on from the main tank before i press transfer of the sub then again when the light comes on for both tanks empty.

I then fill both tanks to full and first check how much i pump into the sub tank to check the calibration of the pump ;) (about 32lt on average) and then look at how much overall. You tend to get a good feel for how your car is driving and will see whenever there is a fluctuation.

For those that are not sure how to work out the maths.

take your Odometer reading, devide by the litres pumped will give you the number of kms you traveled per litre pumped. Then devide 100 by that number.

ie.
1000kms driven and 120lt pumped

1000 / 120 = 8.33
8.33kms per lt
100 / 8.33 = 12lt/100

Hope that helps some.

I'm getting 900km + off a tank (90lt+30=120lt) 900/120=7.5

Hope I'm not wrong? And that's city driving, no freeways

That's what I was saying! You just cut in with your post before I had a chance to finish off the maths.
As I was saying 100/7.5=.......,

About to pick our Patrol up tomorrow, fingers crossed. Going to be very interested in checking fuel consumption. What is the general consensus or protocol with the subtank, do most keep it as reserve for a while or do you always try to transfer to the main before filling and top both up at the bowser?

I fully empty both tanks very fill or what's the point, you might as well save the weight and drive with an empty sub if your not going to use it.

Last week Safeway had a 30c lt off if you did your shop!! Happy days! I saved over $50 at the pump on that fill of 160lts!!

I have not ever fully filled any of my vehicles at the bowser, but the Patrol holding 125L, my wife might have a heart attack if fill it from empty. Might transfer the sub to the main when nearly out then hit the bowser. Keeps the sub tank fresh and happy wife happy life. I know it's the same amount of fuel and dollars at the end of the day, but might lessen the blow at the bowser.
How long does it take the sub to transfer?

my gu takes about 30 minuits to transfer a full sub tank to main tank .

Also tyre size makes a big difference as well as tyre style, Tyre pressures
ATM I get 12.8 /100 k running around town on 305 Mickey T MTZs
Towing I think I get 15/100k, Just doing a fuel run now to see what I return
with new intercooler fitted. Approx $220 to fill both tanks @ $1.45- $1.50
