Hi,
I was wondering why the Patrol fuel consumption is so higher in urban cycle comparing to the Pajero or Land Cruiser (say 10 years old models), something like 14.5l/100 compared to 12, while extra urban values are more similar, something like 9.5 vs 8.2
I guess engine technologies and weigth play a big role,
- is there something significant that can be done to reduce the Patrol urban consumption (weight: getting rid of unused seats, spare wheel ...)?
- is there an easily reversible mod that would reduce the engine power to the needs for a city and save fuel? (a magic chip that would cut down unneeded horses)

Good question , If you do find Magic pill remember 50/50
big straight 6 and a carby very old technology. Nissan behind the 8 ball
Motor wise seem to be playing catch up all the time and not leading like

One good mod is a light right foot lol.
The fact that patrols are so superior off road makes up for higher fuel consumption.
I bought a cheap daily driver for 1200, the way I calculate it, it will have paid for itself in less than 6 months. A mate that owns an 80 series laughed and said "why do all patrol drivers need a second car?" to which I replied "because toyo drivers already have a town car!" lol

They look like figures taken from their marketing figures as opposed to real life figures. My old man's Pajero doesn't get figures like those.

Its dead easy.. you jump in a patrol, your climbing into propper 4x4, built for the off road..
Jump in a mitsu or ford etc... Well you may as well drive a getz... There all city cars with 4wd...

Size, weight, height, real suspension etc - all translates to something that drives like a bus. Pajero is more car like in every way and there is cost savings involved

Best and almost easiest that I got off the forum was to keep gear changes under 2000-2200RPM. Keep acceleration under 2500RPM. Cruise on 98 instead of 100kph.
Myself, I get between low 13's to high13's L/100. Chipped and exhaust.
Dring to and from the city every day.
