I own a 1999 GU patrol , and a few weeks ago I went up five rocks for a night run with about 20 cars , and third gearing it up a dune 3,5000 - 4,000 rpm it started to squeal badly , and when at full lock it does the same . And after leaving her sit for an hour ish, she stopped . And last night I went for a mud bash , and the squealing start at around , 2,500 rpm. Washed her in the car wash and she stopped . What could be the go? Worn power steering belts for the steering , but the revving ? What could that be? - edit - it's a 2.8 GU , chipped and exhaust .

have you checked the condition of the belts?

They're not overly worn . But there's a little play in them? Could this affect it?

I would tension them up and see what happens.

X 2 sounds like belts to me, when they get wet its like lubricating them.
Check tension and adjust as per your model in your user manual

Also check alternator bearings, mine made small squeal we thought it was belt.
but sheared alternator shaft on the way home.

was that on a 3 litre?

Ohh & by the way, I believe replace your belts should fix the squeal but go original, aftermarket tend to squeal early
