Hi guys just saying Gday, my names Trent I Own a 88 model gq shorty. It's just running the standard carby tb4.2 for now. Have always loved my Nissans mainly had skylines so this is my first patrol and will have a lot of questions and advice to be asking down the track. I'll ask my first now and that is in the next 6 to 12 months I'll be waiting to do a engine conversion. I have 3 motors in mind, they are a td4.2..a rb26det or just the injected 4.2 with a turbo. Any suggestions would be great!

G'day Trent

Welcome to the forum and glad you could join us. I'm prejudice because I've got a 4.2 TDi. lol. Lotsa grunt.

Welcome mate. What part of vic are you in?

In regards to the engine, well what do you want in the troll?

a nice efficient long range vehicle, td42
A bit more torque hungry but like our ozone, turbo it..

if you want a 35" tyre stripper and couldn't care less about fuel, bolt in a turbo'd tb42

Wouldn't bother with the rb25, to small.. :p

anyway there is heaps of info and builds here, even a twin turbo tb42.. so jump in and enjoy..

Thanks for the reply boys! I'm from Geelong, yep I think I have a lot of thinking to do with this engine conversion. I think a rb26det would be something different but plenty of time. We're abouts you guys from?

Hey guys I found myself a complete td42 wreck picked the whole car up for $900 and transplanted everything into my swb, the motor has pretty low ks 220000. The car hadn't been started for 5 years I brought it home and it started after a few turns of the key. Amazing how great nissans are! It was a big job but I did it over two weekends I got the 4/11 diff bolted on the back but still have to get the front in. I'm a very happy man :)

welcome aboard mate there are videos of an rb26det around I thing personally the motor struggles with the amount of weight

Yes heaps of power no denying that but the weight of the patrol over a skyline big difference

just my two cents worth :)
