Hey guys
Done a search but can't find exactly whAt I want. Can you split the intake manifold on a tb42e without removing the whole thing. Reason for this is I need to be able to get to the fuel rail to retap the thread that holds it in. Would rather not take the whole thing off. If I can avoid it. Also how many bolts is it. I have removed 6 from
The outside (obvious) and I am
Sure there is probably 5-6 more. Hopefully you can split it without removing everything. Cheers

Might be able to split it while still installed, but it would be easier to just remove the entire intake. This way you can replace all gaskets, give it all a clean if required and it's just a better option. I recently had it all apart and some of the bolts that hold the two halves together are recessed into the bottom half and are hard to get to. A half inch drive socket won't fit, I can't remember exactly what I used to get the bolts out, but it was a slight drama with the tools I had. Would have been impossible while still installed.
Get yourself a table to stand on and a 12mm combination spanner and rip the intake off. Some of the bolts are hard to get to and might need a socket with a universal extension, but it's not too bad.
Might find that your engine runs fine after you've replaced all the gaskets, turned out that was causing my engine dramas.

ok sweet as,
parksy, i saw your thread on the removal, was looking at going that way, removing the whole lot. Looks like by the time I get it going it will pretty much have a full overhall :)
I Moved the fuel rail out of the way and I might actually be able to tap the thread with it in place, see how we go.
Probably going to rehose the whole thing as I go to, most of these vaccuum and fuel lines are pretty old.
The joys of a 20 year old car hey.
Cheers for the info

There's about 4 you'll want a 3/8th drive 12/13mm socketa with med extension and/or wobble extension for.
