I'm am coming up to my first oil change on my patrol since owning it.
I know the oil thing has been covered in a huge thread but there was so many oils mentioned it was hard to keep track.
What oil is the best oil that I can get locally? (Supercheap, auto pro, auto one, etc)
Also what oil filter do you guys recommend? Genuine or aftermarket?
The oil that has been in from the previous owner is penrite 10W-40.
But I would prefere something better
I was thinking the penrite hpr 5w-40 or the hpr 10w-50 full syn.

G'day Shaun
Looks like they've all wimped out.
There's more threads on oil than you'll live long enough to read.
So the answer to you query is tough, suck it up, read them all like we all have and then make a decision and stick to it.
I've used Caltex Delo 400 15/40 (I think) for about 20 years in 2 Patrols without any probs. based on reading threads.
I get it from an independent supplier (not Caltex or their shitty servos). Try the web under any heading you can think of, Caltex, oils, fuel suppliers, whatever.
There isn't much crap oil out there under known brands.
Good luck

A lot of users like the Caltex Delo 400. I use the Castrol Magnatec Diesel with a Ryco or OEM filter, which ever is cheapest at the time.
I did switch to the Delo 400 but found the Catch Can was catching more than with the Castrol. SO have reverted back.
Each engine is different and it all comes down to personal preference. Each brand of oil have good oils and bad oils, just don't go the cheapest you see.
