Hi. Just wondering if oil has a shelf life? My gu needs a service and my father inlaw has the correct oil sitting in his shed that's been there for years. It's brand new lid hasn't had the ring cracked on it. So yeah just wondering if I could use it. Or it would be off or something ?

Cheers

If unopened mate go for it.

Oil doesn't really go off. If its opened you can't be sure of its contents or if its been contaminated. Some of the additives may have a shelf life but I would only be worried if its been sitting for 20yrs

I'm gunna say its ok , as oil is used as a preservative in some cases

Cheers guys. Trying to save a dollar. But didn't wanna save a dollar and risk putting dodgy stuff in. It meets all the right specs and is recommended. So I'll give it a go :)

I rang up penrite technical help line regarding shelf life for their brand of oil as I have several unopened bottles many years old as well. was told their oil has a shelf life of 8 years.

That would still depend on how it was stored.

that's right it could be in a hot garden shed. he told me it is the additive's that break down which contaminate the oil.
