Hi All,
I have a GU 4.8 Patrol.
Currently running 285x75x16 Baja Claws.
These are too aggressive for what I do and Im getting tired of driving on the road with them.
Can someone please recommend a tyre that has a reasonably aggressive tread, low noise and a good price?
Im in Perth so it would help if you can recommend somewhere here.
Thanks

for that kind of money delivered to Perth! you could not really go past the BFGs whether it be the KM2s or the ATs.
IF they dont interest you then i'd be looking at the Micky Thompson 4 or 5 rib depending on what you wanted out of the tyre.

Shaun,
I have MTZ's as I picked them up really cheap. Great tyre, but noisier than the Claw's

MTZ's noisier than claws...WOW... LOL
Must admit, considering how agressive the claws are, they are pretty quiet.

I was totally surprised by how quiet the Claw's were in comparison to the tread shape.
I had Claw's before the MTZ's, but grabbed the MTZ's when the Claws were past it, as I picked up all 5 for $800 ( 33 12.5r 17 ), and the four had only done less than 15,000 Klms, with the spare Brand New....
Great buy at the time, but now I am stuck with them, and as my job has changed and I am not driving around all day in sales anymore, I would prefer to go back to the Claws.

I am about to buy a new set, ( that aren't worn into patterns from another vehicle ) and we will see how quiet a new set is.....

Cooper St's should fit the bill, 70,000 kays, good off road,

Extraordinary purchase around then, yet now I am screwed over thanks to them and as my employment has altered and I am not driving around throughout the day in deals anymore I might want to backpedal to the circle.

Is there any tread left on the MTZ's or all too far gone.

I run Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Ribs 285X70X17, but they are noisy, much noisier than the 285X75X16 FC IIs I ran before.
The ATZs are, however, a great compromise tyre for the varied running I do, mostly gravel, some tar, desert sand and rough fire trails.
After 20,000ks of varied surfaces no chips, cuts or punctures, I'm happy.

I'm a bit keen on the Cooper ST Maxx 285/75/16 but not so keen on the $392 each here in Clare!!

When it comes to tyres I think it really comes down to personal preference. I have fitted Kumho KL78s 265/75r16 to my troll and I can not go past them for value for money. It is an all terrain tread with 10ply and a load rating of 123. At $250 a tyre fitted, and never had a puncture and have gone everywhere my traveling mates have gone with their big aggressive mud patterns, I don't think they should be underestimated.

I've got BFG's At 33/12,5/15 on my truck and I'm happy with it. Very good for sand, good for black road and not that bad for a light mud.
