while out driving today the engine oil pressure light came on and oil pressure went up i thought the light was for low pressure i will change oil and filter tomorrow but does any one have any suggestions as to why the pressure went up could it be a faulty sensor?

My oil pressure light comes on for no reason , but forces me to pull over and check,.
My Mechanic who is very good says the oil., pressure switches are faulty on the GU.
Having said that mine has behaved its self for a while now ,I woud like to run an oil
pressure guage for peace of mind

my guage usually runs 3-4 psi but when the light came on it went up to almost 8 which is almost off the guage

My light comes on after I have been playing in the mud - water is getting on the connector .
After a day or so it goes out and all is normall.

Exactly what I was doing when the light came on I started the car today and the light was really faint so I might get some terminal cleaner on it and dry it out fingers crossed cheers go tank

Is that all the pressure an engine runs at. I had a gauge in one of my cars years ago, I thought it ran at 40 psi.

Yeah my bad its around 40-55 psi I think it's just water in the terminals I found the boot that covers the sensor was missing so hopefully it's just that the light is really faint not really noticeable now

Sounds good mate, hope you have found the fault, I reckon you might have.

Got to be happy with that.
Water and electricity don't mix real well at any voltage, often one works with the other but are kept separate unless the design need them to mix! e.g. electroplating

Yeh I had the exact same problem with my gq after playing in the mud with the light on faintly then coming on but has gone for 2 weeks now.. I read that the gqs have a faulty oil sensor in another thread.. Seems to be pretty common

I replaced my sender unit and it fixed my gauge fluctuations, I think mine used to drop very low.
