40 will get the truckies and as long as the banter is not consistent then I'd probably be there. Most chatter will be passing anyway unless your following a couple of mates having a chat, those guys may find a second channel though.

If you just want to monitor then maybe just set it to scan mate. Again, most traffic will be passing unless you in a built up area.

Hope that helps some?

When on long trips always on 40, truckies give updates on what is coming up sometimes, especially wide loads

I always sit on 40. Many caravaners sit on 18/40.

If you're bored, you could always leave it on scan and pick up everything - remembering, the strongest signal will probably take priority/preference. lol

I sit on 40, unless in convoy. Have a chat to the truckies, makes a trip go quick..
One day this bloke was telling us about this dirty old shella he pick up the night before.. it was an eye opener but also bloody funny I nearly lost a kidney..

Another UHF question if I may.

Sometimes I can listen to both sides of a conversation, other times only one side of the conversation. How come?
