I thought this article, written by a sailor, might be of some use to those planning the Simpson trip?

Viv Moon, Ron's better half has heaps written as well on keeping stores as long as possible.
Combine the two for reading as not much ViV doesn't know about remote outback cooking and how to keep
stuff fresh, but being land based we have the advantage of solar and 12 v fridges, Cryovac in meal size portions
label and freeze. not a fan of de hydrated food as you need water to reconsitute it and water is liquid gold
outback, it would compliment this thread well,

Good read cuppa..
Its amazing how well it all goes.. I'd be cautious thou with the eggs. Who knows how long they've been on the shelf for, unless you buy direct from the farmer..

But some good ideas.. might have to read up on how to wax cheese... I do like my blue cheese, so a little extra mold won't hurt.. :p

Very interesting read Cuppa.
I have always left fruit and veg out of the fridge but have never thought about what you can and cannot store together, will rearrange how I store things in future.
Kallen I have never refrigerated eggs on trips and never had a problem, with the cheese you can buy good cheese in wax already.

Thanks Cuppa, interesting about the egg turning. We've got a few chickens on the farm ( ex city slicker ) and we've got eggs coming out our proverbial egg shoot..!!
