View Full Version : Rebuilt Swivel Hubs, now Front diff with auto lokka seems super tight.

So I rebuilt my front end and now the front diff in 4WD (with hubs locked) seems super bitey/almost bindy. Given I was testing it on black top but even so it still felt really tight in there, I was thinking perhaps it was due to both wheels being driven and I'm in need of a wheel alignment (I'm thinking it's toeing out a bit).

My second thought was that it was the wrong diff oil. But having a look at the 4wdsystems website it says use manufacturer reccomended oil. I put 80W-90 in there which I'm sure is right so I'm happy with that.

Basically I just want peoples opinions on the matter. eg. is it because I tested on black top (which reading up on strongly suggests against this, oops), or do you think it's in need of a wheel alignment? or something else?

Cheers, Irvs

Yes it because you were on bitumen. What you have experienced here is wind up

Sound like the auto lokka isn't disengaging.

Or what matt said.

So it was basically acting exactly as it should have in said situation?

Ouch! If you have an auto Locker as Bene said then the Wind-up as Mat suggests would be ugly mate!

The reason you don't drive with a locked front on bitumen is because a locked front needs some give in the road surface to allow slip and avoid wind-up.

Wind up for sure.
