Gday guys, my 2010 gu is an ex government vehicle from SA i believe. And by looking at the books its been serviced in adelaide and once in coober pedy.
I noticed, red dust here and there around the car, but not much which explains the coober pedy bit.
Also noticed a few metal bits around car have that faded metal look, is this due to salty air ??? (picture below)
Other than that, if the vehicle has been in and around that area, are there any dangers to look out for ??? One obvious one I can think of is that up there its bloody hot and if the turbo hasnt been times before shut down, maybe that could bite me in the long run ? The car sounds and drives fine, and its clean inside out. So yeh considering where its been what should I be looking out for ? Its a 2010 with just under 40k on clock.
Thanks ahead. Jamie.

Probably ex cop mate if been to coober pedy, the marks are nothing to worry about probably more calcium than salt.

We need to see more pics of your Troll.
I think you would be safe with a 2010 model with 40k, and government cars get regular services.
I had an ex cop vehicle for 6 years and never had a thing go wrong with it.
My Patrol is ex Vic government, only had it 9 months but all good so far.
You should give it a real good clean and wax, if it was ex cop vehicle up Coober Pedy it would have regularly visited the mines up there and they water their roads with unfiltered boar water which is saltier than sea water.

It is going to get more salt damage in Warrnambool.

Should be fine, but you could fish oil the truck to give you some peace of mind

Hey mate, my trol seems to be a ex-SA too and it was serviced once at Coober too. Very very clean, but you can tell it was given a very good tidy up. Even today when I wash it, bits of red dusty water seep out of some places. Unsure, how good that dust is for engine/turbo etc? Car seems 100% though.

Mate brought an ex police V8 Troopy from Coober Pedy, great service history, even put 2 brand new rear doors on it.
Only used to ferry officers from Airport to station never used in anger so would think the same
, Up to Alice/Adelaide once a month

Yeh mine has rusty bolts here and there, and a bit of that calcium build up on some steel parts, but you get that anywhere. I can tell my engine bay has been cleaned big time, as some of the electrical sticky connectors still have red gunk / dust in them. Unsure how good this dust is in the long run. But it's a patrol. THey're built for that sort of stuff.

Here is a few quick photos of my GU from the underside. Could someone please tell me, from what you can gather out of the photos, could the black components have been sprayed perhaps or just got a really good blast/clean ? It just seems too clean to me for something out of SA. Especially in the first photo, where the gearbox is hooked to the engine, see how the gear box is a clean black and obviously engine is exposed metal colour. Are the boxes black normally? Been too busy till today to actually give the car a proper look since I picked it up (bloody work). My main concern is the drive train has been pulled out, given a respray and bolted back in. Just can't tell. That shouldn't happen in a GU with only 40k on clock.
