So tomorrow I have a new 2.5" exhaust system going into the GQ! I have removed all of the old LPG system which was stuffed and disconnected all of the gas lines and electrics etc that go with it. Managed to find an old air box and the bits needed to convert it back to straight petrol, sorry it is a TB42 Petrol 1989 that had a disused LPG system that was rusted and not working , so the LPG Tank was the last bit to remove, alas, can not get all the bolts out. Am hoping the boys putting the new exhaust in will be able to drop it out for me?!

Also just wondering if there is anything in particular I should be doing to convert it back to straight petrol after removing the LPG? Had not been running LPG for quite some time....

Tune the truck for petrol and ensure that the you cannot select gas. (its a good anti steal device though)
The exhaust guys might not want to take a gas axe near a lpg tank
You might need to put a carby kit in the carby - depenadant on how long it was run on lpg, does it idle ok etc

Thanks GQ Tank , All went well today, the exhaust boys dropped out the old LPG tank no worries! New 2.5" Exhaust and Extractors in, sounds great and is running nice, have stripped everything that had to do with the Gas System out including all the electrical so straight petrol only now, did idle a bit rough when I connected the proper airbox etc back in but all ok now, think that was to do with the hot idle sensor? And how I connected it back into the carby.... Learning all this as I go...
Will get over to the members rides section and put some photos up, planning to do the usual mods, slowly...

Is a carby kit easy to do for the home mechanic? Was thinking to take it to a mechanic and get them to tune it up nice , now that the Gas is out and the new exhaust in...... Not sure when it had a proper tune up last?? Thought I could do all the oil and other lubricant changes etc and just leave the tune up for the mechanics

I done my own carby kit - I also had a rb30 carby as a sample that I did refer to. If you do the kit - lay out a newspaper, take photos and take your time.
The tb42 and RB30 carbys are very simalar.

What are the legal aspects with RMS in removing LPG System as it comes up on rego (i think)
I'm about to remove mine as the price of gas is up around $1.10 where i go in the High Country and I have to do about 110km to refill.

Remove it and I think maybe contact the mob that is on the plate in your engine bay??
I just removed mine last month and all I did was remove that plate and took the little red stickers off....

i dont think there are any legal issues removing the gas set up here in SA, its not recorded on the rego here. I plan on getting rid of my lpg system once the tank is due for checking again.
