Hi everyone
just thought I give a update fill in on the 06 patrol we bought with 255k and no mods I expected the motor might not be as good as it is but it seems to have done mostly highway work but on the weekend i pulled the intake manifold off and cleaned the black crap out of it and the inlet ports. Nowhere near as bad as I expected after seeing some of the photos on here showing badly clogged intake manifolds. There was about 5mm thick gunk just inside of where the egr goes in and the rest was maybe 2mm thick, but its all clean now and i made up an egr blanking plate and fitted at the same time and fitted a snorkel last week next is the intercooler upgrade then exhaust ect but it's coming along ok and I am happy to say the engine condition is pretty good so it won't need a rebuild as soon as I thought it might
I keep you updated on progess
cheers

Sounds Good, maybe remove and clean IC,
Fit a catch can, which will stop your Maf sensor
getting dirty as well

hi yeah the intercooler was quite clean just a little oil film but I suspect it may be leaking a little and i cleaned the maf sensor a couple of weeks ago but an intercooler ungrade is next on the list so i'm not going to worry about doing anything with the current one and a catch can is also on the list

Personally unless the IC is leaking, leave that upgrade until last. As for your title, detonation prevention here's a list of what you should do, AND in order of priority.

Fit boost and EGT gauge
Fit a Dawes valve and needle valve
Fit EGR blanking plate
Fit an Oil Catch Catch. Provent 200.

If you have the EGR plate fitted and no Dawes or gauges I would recommend removing it until you do get the others fitted. Blocking the EGR can result in higher exhaust temps and thus higher boost levels too resulting in Limp mode happening. Doesn't always happen, but most people who fit the EGR plate without the Dawes fitted, see limp mode happening.
There is other things I could add to the list but thats what you should do before even looking at an IC upgrade.
