Hey,
I've been lurking for a bit and I'm sat out the back next to my burner with a beer in hand http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo331/XT43/D0F0EAA4-5664-4221-A06A-A29B6717241C-1976-000001FAD25DEF2D_zpsde32e854.jpg
so here's a bit of my story,
I have fond memories of my old boy driving off in my mums mint Fairmont ghia in the early 80s on a Saturday morning and coming back in a green 1973 FJ40 SWB Landcruiser.
'Greeny' as it was named became a centre piece of our family for the next god knows how many years with trips ( WA guys should know these! ) to Steep Point, weekenders to Myalup, Shark Bay, and a big trip to the Baxter Cliffs which included Israelite Bay, Bilbunya dunes etc etc. I don't know what the goings like nowadays but I remember slow windy tracks with my brother and I in the back sitting in rear facing seats, and engel between us ( still going strong nearly 30 years later ) mum and dad up front and the borrowed army spec trailer with 2 weeks supplies getting towed behind.
When I was 17 I bought it off dad for $1000 ( still haven't paid him ) and poured truck loads of money in to it, rebuilding the gas guzzling straight 6, full body work, jazzing it up in a metallic green / grey colour and interior consisting of boat carpet floors and seats from a Mack truck. This became the local party bus and did not see much 4wd action.
Anyway it was eventually sold off for some added comfort and better than 20lt / 100km economy.
My passion / money pit has been this ethanol consuming machine

until I got the urge to perhaps take my family down the same path as I went ( also got bored of borrowing mates 4wd to tow the above to race meets ) so a couple of weeks ago I bought this

1992 Patrol 4.2lt diesel
280k km
2inch lift rolling on 33s
Dual Tanks, holds approx 130lts
Aftermarket intercooler running a turbo from a Safari ( probably China spec haha )
Dual batteries, sockets in the back, EGT gauge up front and a few other things including a bent spare rim.
Decent bull bar ( ARB I going by the fancy sticker ) with a couple of spotties
I bought it with a fried clutch, got my mate to swap it out and put in a new master and slave cylinder and so far its been performing as it presents. I've given it a little workout on some tracks out in Dwellingup when we were camping over Easter and are aiming for Jurien camping over the school holidays. I also towed my race car down to Busselton over the weekend just gone for a competition on the foreshore and it pulled it with ease.
Fingers crossed the new purchase doesn't spring any costly surprises and in the future take the family on some decent tours, teaching my two boys how to dig a hole to take a crap would be very nostalgic.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I'm sure we'll cross paths at some stage.
Cheers.
