I know it sounds dirty BUT, after reading a few MAF threads I thought
what the hell sounds easy, sounds like I should be doing this. SOOOOOOO I did
I bought some CRC MAF cleaner and performed the task......
My question is
Should the MAF be oily as mine was.........??????
If not why was mine??

They will get oily with no catch can or poor servicing.
Fit a Provent 200 catch can you wont look back
Oil style air filters are a no no too
What year as sounds like you need to NAD your ride
May need to remove and clean IC as well

They do get oily, as the 3L recirculates crankcase fumes back into the intake near the block through the EGR . This will end up coating the MAF after a while.
It may pay to add the catchcan and even replace the MAF if you think that it may be suspect at all...... the MAF plays a huge role in engine failures so don't take the chance
