Hi my names dayne, fairly new to the 4x4 world
iv'e had a bunky GQ for a few years but has been claimed by my brother

I bought a ticking time bomb (rd28 gu) and then converted it to rb30 after the rd decided to BBQ itself, the RB30 went well for 6 months N/A just no torque but was fine off road at high revs, i turbo'd it and blew the front seal along with rocker gasket and dipstick out... yep she had blow by under boost lol

Now ive just dropped a R33 nissan GTR RB26DETT into it after modding a pickup, sump, engine mount to clear the front turbo and firewall to clear rear turbo. Im a RB boy all the way and know alot about them so i figured it suited me best. Only down side to this conversion is im using the 2.8 box so ill be after a few spare box's. Engine made 388hp @ all 4 wheels in the gtr so im hoping for around the 350rwhp on the 33s. Will be my slowest car but its a 4x4 i guess

I come from the tar racing world, have a 500+hp VL Turbo Showcar (built rb25) and a 515hp ve maloo as a daily so im addicted to power and fuel guzzlers. I've started to love wedge with the shack up there and getting older (25) clubbing bores me a little so this conversion had to be done. also i have a LS1 at home for a future project possibly another GU patrol??

Anyway if anyone has RB questions im here to do my best at helping.

So you dont think im pulling your leg and one of those dreamers we all see, ive chucked in a few pics of my "fast" toys, the maloo is in the air due to a blown box, you'll learn i drive all my cars extremely hard...

Great looking VL, I didn't see a bowser out the front of your joint. But I guess your saving some money with the Maloo out of action.
Troll surely has got to be you favourite, it goes everywhere your others won't.

Cheers mate. The VL is my love but with the boys in blue I'm leaning more to stealth power that is on the down low haha

The patrol should be running this weekend once it's wired. Just finished the 3-3.5 stainless exhaust and already looking at power fc piggy back computers for more power... And I haven't driven it yet haha

I like, Have a soft heart for the VLs used to own a calais turbo myself. Would love to see a vid with the 26 going and the spooling sound :D Can't beat the sound of a spooling turbo :D

Update, she is now running, I need to get my injectors cleaned though with a idle misfire on no:2 cyl so once thats done ill take her out for a propper drive, She feels low on torque compared to the RB30 but high on power once both turbos spool, it would definately be neck and neck with my missis 6l VE caprice haha

I've decided im going to put a A/M computer in and turn the boost up to 14-16psi and fit adjustable cam gears on it to try get my torque up a little then i can adjust high end rpm cam curve with the computers VCT controls =D

Still a bit more wiring to tidy but it moves!!

I also picked up my custom plates for it today =D

Know of a few GQ spinning all 4 at 100kph be it in the wet, but they were 37"s centipedes ,the GQs made around 325rwKw
1/4 mile times of 14.5 sec. Pretty hard to break the box i would think, these things are "truck Like" .
Your build is it because you can or are you entering comps,etc. There are heaps of wolves in sheeps clothing going around my way
that look std but when pushed, WOW

Look forward to what figures you get from a dyno

yeah there are a few monster builds going around but alot of people are going the easy and cheaper rb25 option.
Ive heard stories the gearboxes in the 2.8TD are weak as piss though?? =S
its just cause i can, i have no interest at this stage in going for comps etc but it may happen if i enjoy it.

still yet to reach a dyno, that will be in the coming week or two =D

wow. the build is looking good mate, about to start an rb25 swap into my 2.8 gu in the next few weeks.
just getting all the parts together before i start.

Hey mate what did you have to modify with the sump ? Did you use the rd28 sump with a adapter?
And did you use the rd28 engine mounts and modify them or used the rb26 mounts.

yeah mate i think you emailed me regarding sump/mount issues so i replied to that.

well bit of a update, got it all in and running and it had a missfire, ended up being a intake manifold gasket, but the shop i got the engine through had warranty so i dropped it there as i CBF lol so now im back from my euro trip im going to pick it up this weekend. Cant wait to give it some P100 and go wild offroad!! =D

ok so a update ias ive not been online for a while. the car was all finished and drove it for 3 1/2 weeks intermittently between other cars and i lined up a sahara 200 series... well it was neck and neck to the top of third gear which was good untill the front turbo decided to shea the exhaust wheel off the turbo, so it was game over that day.

bam im hooked to it now and committed thus far so time for more upgrades

iv just fitted a top mount 6 boost manifold to it, a ne GT30/76 anti surge turbo, tial external 44mm wastegate, braided lines and wired in a apexi power fc dejetro so now the AFM's have gone. just based tuned it and its running so im extremely happy. off to the dyno thursday for a full tune and may run it around 14-15 psi to stay safe. these GTR engines are capable in excess of 650rwhp however my only limitation atm is my 444cc injectors which i plan to keep to try rescue some fuel on long runs haha..

in saying that im expecting a figure of 350-450rwhp on 33s so we shall see what these injectors max out at =D

its making 290rwhp on 12psi now.

wacking it on the rollers agian hopefully this wknd for a 18psi tune. might not need 18psi but when it pushes out 400rwhp ill stop and be semi happy for a few months

Nice results mate, Are you just running a pod filter or do you have a airbox? Do you intend on running it via a snorkel. Getting air down a snorkel fast enough is the issue I have with my LS.

yeah just running a pod filter mate, i dont plan to do river crossings or get it in water deeper than the axles at this stage. getting air in souldnt be too hard however id need to run a ugly home made stainless snorkel to get a 5" feed to the turbo mouth

humm,
I've got 700 sard injectors in R32 GTR, and its conservative tune over 310kw athw, with N1 turbos.
but these injectors will up the anti alot more than that, how much I dont know haven't tried.
builder advised me to go larger than N1's would need as most peoples go larger turbo later, And it's saves replacing a new injector for another new one later.

Dont worry about fuel, It's the tune & how ya peddle it.
If ya try and save fuel it will use more,
RB26 develop power on song and off song they are heavier on fuel.
all I can think is patrol gear boxes low gears may help chew fuel.
hope I'm wrong, love to be ,so ya can enjoy it more.
A standard RB26 airbox can deliver over 300kw ya don't need pods for that.

I have a similar patrol want to do an rb26 conversion,,,,,so what brakes,transmission & suspension are you running on?
And apart from the mountings will the engine be a direct fit?

Killer build mate! seen you drive past on roe hwy the other week and sounded MENTAL!!. for a minute there i was looking around for a skyline.. lol
Mine's getting tuned next Friday. should line em up some time ;)
