I like the 4high on the fly.
My first trip, I kept stopping putting into neutral then change and the same getting out of gear.
No one told me any different.
Thanks AB.

I shift my GQ to 4h on the fly, not very fast mind you, but I always double clutch.

No need to double clutch. Your only removing drive from one shaft not changing ratios.

Yea I posted a while back I think..

No need to clutch at all Benny, just foot off accelerator. Great if you need a bit more speed before a bog hole..

No: 10,

Whats the actual benefit of manually locking the front hubs other than the speed you can change from H2 to H4, can you leave them manually locked all the time.

Yes you can leave them locked all the time, it just causes the front drive shaft to windmill. It causes no damage, and could be advantageous occasionally since it will allow the diff oil to splash about.

It's possible that the increased load of the rotating axle and shaft will increase your fuel consumption slightly.

Perfectly fine to leave front hubs locked. As mentioned it keeps oils circulating.
But yes you increase the fuel consumption and steering is a little heavier.
My q had them locked for the first 100 thou..

I drive with the front hubs locked at least once a month, to keep all the seals lubed. One quirk the Old Trol has is the steering wheel goes slightly off centre when in 4wd.

In winter I keep my front hubs locked in as I live in a constant of snow and ice from June to October. Its saved me many times being able to smack her in to 4h when its going peer shaped sometimes halfway through a corner sometimes on a straight sometimes on a hill

Bit of a novelty. Pat Callinan speaks for 10 minutes without pushing a product..... except of course the venerable Nissan Patrol
