Hey everyone got a quick question for use. i have noticed that my gq patrol has started to make a cracking noise coming from the front end whilst turning at a standstill. If i'm moving you dont hear it so i'm guessing the added stress of turning the wheels at a standstill doesnt help. I think i've narrowed it down to the front left hub. Its were i THINK the noise is the loudest. Havnt had time to pull it apart to have a look but if it is what would would be causing it? What other areas may be causing it?
Its one of a couple of pain in the arse problems i have with it at the moment.

Go through a couple of round abouts, right turns. If you hear a clicking sound it's the CVs.....maybe!

get your wife to turn the wheel while your out of the car and crawling under it. it is likely to be a Tierod end or something mate. Very unlikely to be a Hub or CV if its not moving and you can hear the noise.

i have mate and im pretty sure its the left hand side/passenger side. i thought the tie rods to gave them a grease but still doing it. The tierods arnt that old the draglink tierod came with the superior adj draglink mid last yr and the steering arm tierod was replaced the day before xmas.

Put it up on a couple of Jack stands and take both front wheels off then ask you wife to turn the wheels and see if you can isolate it. Even rest your hand on the left hub and feel for the noise too.
If it is a "Grinding" noise then it must be your king pin bearings?? The only thing that is spinning when your standing still.

Radius arm bushes and panhard rod bushes will do what you describe if they are shot.

its not really a grinding noise more of a crack crack crack as you turn the wheel. Will give what you said a go on the weekend.

How will these contribute? The panhard bushes arnt that old they were bought the same time as the draglink from superior engineering. I was told though when getting the drop boxes installed that the radius arm bushes on the diff side could do with replacing just havnt got around to it. Dont see how these would cause the problem maybe you can elaborate.

Yeah mate. The tubes in the bush tear out in a way and when sitting still and steering the diff will actually move sideways then you get metal on metal contact, this will be the arm touching the brackets on the diff.
But I don't really know much.

Yeah he don't know much but he does know stuff! Lucky you have a Stuff question. A Much question would be harder for him and we'd need Beneboy for that!

So how would i tell if it was the radius arm bushes?

you could flex it up. If you reverse up something it will make the front flex better. once you have you should be able to look at the bushes. If they are buggered the crush tube would have pulled away from the bush, or you will see cracks or tears.
