hi all, just been quoted $1225 for my 160k service on my GU from our local dealer. nearly fell over, so i am wondering what do you get for $1225 and should i just go for the minor service.

Ever thought of doing it yourself? Get the Service Manual and go through each item. I haven't got one in front of me but I would be surprised if there are more than a handful of items for which you will need a specialist.

Without knowing your mechanical ability and access to tools its unfair to be too pushy I suppose but this Forum would have the answer for just about everything you need to know. I didn't even know what a NADS was before I searched this site. Now fully installed thanks to the info found here.

And caving in to the stealership's outrageous bid for your work just encourages them.

i have good mechanical knowledge and a pretty well equipped garage, however this is my first patrol and just wanted to check if this was something people in the know would recommend i do but looks like i should just go ahead and do it myself, thanks for the reply

without looking at my service log book, I don't know whether it is a major one or not. but in saying this if it was a major one I would say they would do the usual like, engine and oil filter change, fuel filter change, air cleaner replacement, diffs, transfer case, transmission fluid changes, radiator coolant, grease tail shafts, repack wheel bearings, inspect brakes or replace brake pads, brake fluid change, power steering fluid change. these are the basic changes I can think of for a major. and there is no doubt more. if you are mechanically minded do it yourself you will save money and will get to know your troll. I do my services and I'm a female.
