View Full Version : Lifting the Q

Hi all...now that I have the truck with me here it is time to start planning things in earnest..I will be trying to set the Q up as a good all rounder..extended outback tours , ..across oz and probably up to the cape etc , .a daily driver , and hopefully weekend trips and meet ups which could mean anything....so hence regarding the suspension lift ..I will be running 33's , and was considering a 2" lift..
Questions : is that enough ?
If I also did a 2" body lift would it still be legal ?..would it affect the steering shaft angle ?..and the gear shifts (T bar auto )..and what else would I need to consider if I lifted the body ?
Is it worth lifting the body or should I just do the complete lift with the suspension if I need more than 2" ?
After much information overload research I have decided to use tough dog .
I am trying to do things once only due to time constraints with work , economics , and environmentally not having a workshop or even a carport here to do it in ...lol
cheers

P.S. I forgot to mention..I am not trying to set up a rock crawler us such .

Mate this has been covered till the cows come home. Search function in the suspension sub forum to refine your search..
But basically every state is different as to how much lift you are allowed. This is also covered in suspension section.
But in short if your to just do a 2" lift you may scrub with 33"s. If you stick to a skinnier 33 then you should be fine..
But installing a 2" lift is an easy weekend job. Day if your half mechanically minded.. half day if your good.. its just springs and shocks.

Gday mate, if you have a search of the forum you will find heaps if info regarding this topic.

For starters:
The legalities differ from state ti state. Where are you located? Usually 2" lift and 33" tyres are legal.
2" lift will be enough to clear 33" tyres.
2" lift will not affect steering shaft angle or auto at all.
2" shouldn't need castor correction but it's up to you and how it feels after the lift. Castor correction can be done at anytime after the lift but the general consensus is that it's not needed for a 2" lift.
Don't worry about a body lift, there are no gains to be had for a 2" lift and 33s.

Tough dog is a decent brand. If you can afford the adjustable shocks id go down that path as you can have them stiffer while touring and soften them up if you want to have a weekend play in some trickier stuff

Lol.

I was going to add that my 33" x 12.5" tyres on 15" rims with a 2" lift only scrub on the front drivers side mudflap bracket because it's bent forward lol
