hey, new to the diesel scene. just bought a 2.8 gu wagon. seems good but maybe a bit low on compression. seems to turn over pretty fast just before it fires up. maybe a little low on power too but never driven a diesel before so only a informed guess.
any confirmations or advice.

sometimes it takes a second turn of the key to get going. (not sure if it was doing it when it was hot or cold)

For my 2.8 if I leave the ignition on for too long it will take a few cranks to start, yet if I turn the key as soon as the glow plug light goes out it fires straight up.

Interesting.

I leave mine until the air bag light goes out before cranking. (so sort of pretending it's the glow plug light.)

Never misses when I do this.

i wait till the airbag light goes out when cold i;e morning. other wise i wait till the glow light goes out. still does it on either. sometimes a puff of whitish smoke when started. valve stem seals? valves not seated?
i have a week off soon, will investigate then.
cant think of anything better to do with a week off lol
