Hi all

Just wondering what this funky blown out looking black intake tube is for?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/Pakas/08171836-4777-4F6B-941A-F3DA0BD780EE-252-000000A946AA39D2.jpg
And I've heard the term silver top with regards to the td42, does it also apply to the tb42 series motor? I've seen tb42's with a black rocker cover and mine has a silver, so just curious.

Cheers

Andy

91 Ti TB42 Carby and silver top here.

Parksy, I'm guessing your talking about the rectanglular bulge in the intake pipe right next to where it joins the flexi pipe? It may be for some type of sensor? is there any wiring going into it?

Sorry nissangq4.2, the thing that has nissan 84J00 stamped on the placard. Doesn't have any sensors or anything. Some kind of expansion chamber. No idea.

hahaha, I though you were talking about one of the rubber hoses was blown out and the U shape one had a dark section that looked like it could possible be damaged.

Not sure what it really does mate, but will look into it

I've seen similar shaped intake pipes on other petrol efi engines but no idea what they do! Lol.
I think you're right with the expansion chamber idea.

Ive just been searching "16576P - DUCT ASSY-AIR" and it seems that its on plenty of nissan cars and is called the same part number even though its slightly different on each different model. But still couldnt find out what it actually does lol apart from the obvious

yeh mate, I have been searching away and came to the same conclusion that it was on plenty of Nissan's and they varied in design.

I assume by the design it interrupts the air flow for some reason, think only Nissan knows what it was designed for *L*

Haha yep I have one. Thanks all for the responses. I was thinking about replacing that flexible portion of hose for something abit more streamline and was also thinking about changing the "duct assy air" for something also abit more streamline, but I'm guessing its there for a reason so might just leave it.

Pretty sure those things are resonators which are there to create some sort of pulsed airflow into the engine. Have removed one before on a ford Fairlane (302) and it wouldn't even idle without it. I could be wrong but that's my best guess.
