Hi all, I have a Redback Thumper as a second battery which went flat this week so I had it on the charger for about 4 hours today, just went and checked it and it is hissing.......any ideas????
The battery is about 3 years old.

Not sure about the amp charge as it is only a cheap charger that I got about 6 years ago, just checked it again and it is not hot but still hissing slightly

Only noticed it when I checked it after 4 hours, the charger said that it was fully charged

I'd say its just releasing gas possibly due to getting too much charge and bubbling the water.
If it was hissing straight away then the battery could be shot????

Doggie, take the sticker off if it has one and you can take the caps off, they will probably be screw types and it will be hissing because the gas from "boiling" trying to escape, the cheaper sealed ones are not really sealed they just cover the caps with a sticker, you have to take them off to relieve the escaping gas.

They are not really sealed the tops are called explosion caps/covers, Take it to a Battery place to have it checked.
Makes one hell of a mess under the bonnet if it lets go
