View Full Version : Need a good trailer plug

Can anyone advise on a good quality trailer plug? Mine is 10 years old and I am sick of having to wiggle and jiggle (the plug!) to make sure all the lights etc work before heading off each time. I am concerned that the movement, once I am on the road, could mean that the 'connection' could be compromised.
Is there a trailer plug which connects with a solid 'click' and stays firmly connected?
Many thanks, in advance.

Imo go a good quality alloy plug setup on the patrol. 22 years old and only just starting to have you issue.
But imo 10 years is dam good run.. there sub $20 bucks a side these days..

I've always used Narva connectors and if they are fitted correctly they should work and last. http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/flat
The alloy ones should do the job as well but again make sure its wired and fitted right.

Cant beat the alloy plugs, at least you can run over them a few times, Also handy having
a square to round connector, if you lend or borrow your camper or trailer.

Thats a link to a beauty, but might need a morgage upgrade!!
The flat plugs have issues with the pins closing, they are split and when wriggling the plug to get it in or out the pins squeeze the gap in them closed.
To fix get a stanly knife or similar and push it into the split, that opens it up a little and allows the contact to be made again.
Dont be tempted to give a bit of a twist as they are brass and do snap a side off.
Add a bit of WD40 or equivelent to the plug and socket, wipe off the excess and you should be right.

Led tail lights are a good value upgrade. Submersible, and none of that 'bad earth/blown globe stuff.
Will compliment your new trailer plug!

Remember reading somewhere a little while ago that someone was doing a completely waterproof plug.
Maybe this will jolt someones memory. bit pricey though

Thanks for all those helpful replies. I will check out the links. The EZ connector looks promising, though the review sounds like I may need to grow a bigger set of muscles to separate the halves!
