Comments were extracted from a post asking what metal should be worn as a Wedding ring, supposedly her husband was an electrician.
Unfortunately the original post was just spam to link a jewellery website but I though it raised some good so all replies have been posted here for all to see and the original thread deleted

Titanium rings.
Yep x2 with that. In the event of him getting his finger squashed, titanium will shatter instead of crushing his finger. A lot of blokes I know in the welding/engineering trades have titanium rings for safety

NO METAL!! metal is conductive. There are more than enough tool box talks and safety briefs about sparkies wearing jewellery. its not very pretty. a ring could easily burn his finger clean off his had.
a bloke I work with has it tattooed on his finger.

Oh yeah I didnt even think of that. I was obviously only thinking of impact injuries.

Years ago my mate was about to play squash, jumped up to put his keys on a ledge. Ring hooked on the way down, he now wears it on a chain around his neck as he's minus a ring finger on his left hand.
Ripped all the flesh from the lower joint right off and left the bone exposed, also took him a long time to get over feeling pain in a finger that was no longer there.
There are so many warnings I could make about protecting your ring and not getting it hooked - but it's a family forum so I'll leave it at that.................................

imo, at work, if a tradie or construction worker, a wedding ring should be on a neck chain, or not at all if working on machinery.
Google finger ringbarks. looks awfully painful

I would be reluctant to wear a ring around electricity/electronics. I used to work in a high voltage environment (radar). We were banned from wearing any kind of jewelry. Perhaps its different for sparkies these days.....

No jewelry should be worn when working with or around machinery. In the RAAF it was a chargeable offense to work on and around aircraft with any jewelry on at all. Not only is there a danger of getting it caught on stuff but the added risk of jewelry falling into planes and equipment.
Gotta be Tappy with that!

Yep rings during work is a no no. When we do firefighting in the confines of navy ships, it gets so hot in the compartments that any metal objects on you heat up and burn the crap out of you. Plus when handling ropes, hands should be free of any jewellery in case you get caught on the rope. People have been pulled through fair leads because of this. Not pretty...

Mate at work used to be in the army many years ago. They used to all sit in the back of the army trucks and one day this bloke jumped out of the truck only to leave his ring finger and about a foot of tendons hanging on the truck!

Guys I've worked with have had tungsten rings. I personally don't wear any for of jewellery not even a watch it all can catch on to moving machinery or be conductive with electricity. Any wife or parter that forces people to wear such items is insecure and selfish putting there partner in harms way. My old man saw someone loose a finger when welding as it earthed out. Keep it for te weekends that when I wear my jewellery.

I remember, this one time at band camp, we were concreting a slab. the truck needed to back in on the steel, so we didn't use chairs for the mesh, just lifted the steel up as the truck edged forward.
Now, I stuck my hand in to lift the steel, and hand came out, without ring. Funny sight watching half a dozen concretors searching thru wet concrete for a wedding ring !
True story .... except the band camp bit !

I thought it was A-- To Mouth machine lmao
No rings at work, i've been told and seen a few mechanics missing ring fingers after they have accidentally arced a spanner across a batter the ring melts thru their finger and docks it like a dogs tail!!
Even in summer when i lean over a hot motor for a split second my necklace gets scorching hot and gives you a bit of a burn.

No more rings for me at work since I jumped down from a ledge and caught the ring on a ledge that I was hanging on to, off to hospital to have it cut off and replace it with 6 stitches
