Hey all,

Lately i've been getting a bottom end knock when i start my patrol until it builds oil pressure. I changed the oil a couple of months ago and i think i put 15-40 in it or maybe 10-40 not entirely sure. I'm thinking that the oil may be the issue. Is it worth moving to a thicker oil? i was thinking of using HPR30 or HPR15.

What are peoples thoughts?

Funny you mention that, I did a service on mine not long ago and noticed the same bottom end knock. I used 15-40 Castrol in mine. ,,,she'll be right mate:)

The oil could be too thin try a 20w50 that should better suit the age of of the motor.

Silly question, you didn't over fill the sump by any chance ??

Is it a Knock knock, a gnack gnack, a nuck nuck,a clack clack, a click click or a nung nung, I kid you not!!
Does the knock stop when you push the clutch in?
cheers, the ferret

Mine seems to be more of a knock knock. I havent noticed the noise stop when the clutch is pushed in as its gone by the time I drive off...i'll give it a shot in the morning

I think the light goes out before the knock stops, sometimes it can knock for upto 10 seconds. I'll double check it all tomorrow

If the light is off while its knocking then its not a bottom end knock but could be just some piston slap or a dickie lifter, but yeh let us know mate

My knocking only last probably 2 or 3 seconds at most. I don't like any knocking though.
Oil light goes out at the same time as the knocking stops.

Bought some HPR30 today, will see how that goes.

Hey mate forget the idiot light & put in an oil pressure gauge by the time the light comes on the damage is done. For the age of the motor use 15-50w or 20-50w. But make sure you are using a top quality oil filter as the inferior filters have a dodgy bypass on them & let dirty oil through & also restricts the oil flow to vital parts & cause knocking which in the long term will stuff your motor

20-50w / 20-60w should be used on all motors IMO
