Hi everyone. This is my first time writing. I am a missionary in Guatemala, Central America. Due to the fact that there is only 1 Nissan dealer in the entire country and they are very unreliable, I am turning to this forum for some Nissan Patrol advice.
My "check engine" light comes on after about 1 hour driving on very rough paved road or in 4x4 on the off-road. I read one of the threads about cleaning the MAF sensor and that seemed to help a bit but did not eliminate the problem. After shutting the engine off for 30 minutes or more, the computer seems to reset itself and the light is off. When I went to the shop to have the codes read, the codes were erased also after the reset. Finally one day I was able to get the codes read while the light was on and got the "injector timing" code. The mechanic says I need a new injector pump, but I don't believe it. The problem only occurs under the conditions I stated: on smooth road, never.
When the light is on, it is like there is a governor on the engine: I'm limited to 2200-2500RPM max. My mechanic, not a Guatemalan, is thinking there might be a loose wire that is somehow triggering the faulty light when on rough road. If that is true, it will be like searching for a needle in the hay!
Can anyone out there help me? Thanks, Santiago.
I forgot to mention that the Patrol is a 3.0TDI 4x4 2005 4dr
