Hey Folks.

Currently have a 97 GQ 2.8td ST.
Looking to upgrade to a GU for a few reasons, including more power, more comfort and long-term investment.
Looking for diesel, manual, <150,000km and full service history.

I have found a 2006 GU ST 3.0l with 135,000 km and one owner with service history at $28,500 ..... Doesn't have many extras, but there don't appear to be many for sale here in SA. it's at a dealer, so will try get them down, plus get warranty - but what else should I be looking at? Think I might get an RAA check to be sure ....thoughts?

Any thoughts on this? Trace

I hope an RAA check is beter than the RACV one done on mine.
The extra I paid for a specialist 4wd place to do a pre purchase check ($120 I think) resulted in me buying the vehicle, which i wouldn't have done on the basis of the RACV check (Paid for by the dealer). In hindsight it is clear that the RACV tester was unfamiiar with 4wd's generally & Patrols in particular. It also highlighted a number of non critical issues which were rectified before purchase saving me way more than the price of the test.

Thanks all ..... budget wont stretch to a later model really :(
Shame though!

Out of interest - what are the benefits of the CRD engine?

The one we're looking at is at a garage, and they do extended warranties, so we'll look at what it does and doesn't cover.

We're looking for an ST model, as prefer electric windows .... and there isnt much around SA at the moment .... having said that, we haven't seen much choice and we've been checking there alot.

I have just bought a 2008 CRD, as far as I can gather from my research they are alot more realiable than the old DI donks and you dont require to go the whole hog with the NADS kit to keep and eye on it all.

I am still going with the EGR block and catch can for mine though.

Yeah ... i looked at interstate options ... but I have heard bad things about people bringing in cars and then not getting them approved through the inspections - which would really suck :(

Plus the ones you linked to are DX not ST - my arms arent long enough to reach over to open the windows manually :(

The one we've seen has full Nissan Service history in Major service last year. Had a look at it yest - it looks pretty good - except (which every garage seems to do) it has black sprayed underneath - covering up all signs of marks etc. Going tomorrow to test drive, to see what we think - will feedback then :)

Just incase anyone wanted to see this thread completed - we decided to buy the Patrol previously mentioned, subject to RAA inspection.

We also got the dealership to throw in a 3 year warranty (covers everything manufacturer warranty covers - excludes tyres, brakes etc).

Very happy overall - it's obviously not been off-road before - just a day-to-day drive, with all regular services etc.

Should be collecting it Thursday - then we gotta clean up our old girl ready to sell :)
