View Full Version : Oil additive for LPG..............

Here I am again, I've heard that some LPG vehicles have a bottle installed under the hood for an Oil additive that drip feeds into the upper cylinder body ( Hope I said that correct). My cuz had it in his Cruiser, I have the additives but need to know if it is a DIY job fitting the reservoir.
Please advise, I am in Pakenham, Vic, and would like some recommendations for a mechanic.
Thanx in advance.....
Oh and by the way, I have managed to lay my hands on the series-2, rear light assembly, off Ebay, have fitted them myself and the Trol looks a lot better with rear lamps that work, rather than the dummy units that are on the series 1.
If anyone requires them, do not hesitate to ask, I can post a step by step installation, as I have done mine and perfected the DIY on a mate's Trol as well.
Cheers,

Mate, if you can breathe, you can install the valve saver kit, it's very easy. What Patrol do you have and what kit do you intend to install?

I run "Flash Lube" system on mine. Seems to do the trick.
I ran the same system on my old tojo 3f. You can purchase flash lube at most BP's round the traps of in bulk at Burson's, Repco.
Easy to fit, the trick is keep the drip small as more is not always better in this case.

Hello and welcome
X 2 with bigfella the "flash lube " seems to be the popular one.
one drip every 5 seconds or so. works via your vacuum hose
from memory, very easy install as NP99 stated..
Now jump in anytime and enjoy

Mate, you can buy the kits from Repco and Supercheap, other places as well. Flash lube is the one I bought, comes with complete instructions. It's about $75 or wait til they have a sale. Super cheap sell another brand as well for about $50.

In the box you get a bottle, holder, tubing, T fitting and brass fitting plus a bottle of lube.

For me the hardest bit was finding room under the bonnet. I located the bottle against the battery holder, bent a tab forward and screwed/bolted the clamp bracket to the tab, placed the bottle in and ran the tube to a vac hose, cut and joined the T fitting, filled the bottle, started the engine and adjusted the flow rate on the bottle top cap.

Job done, happy to answer any questions you might have.

Does it actually make any difference?? Or is it more of a engine longevity thing?

In theory it saves the valve seats from damage......small insurance I guess.

Np99 is right. It provides lubrication as lpg doesnt lubricate and prevents valve seat recession. Had it on all my lpg cars and so far all good. Last car done over 400,000 and still going well. Had the head checked and it was still ok.

Easy to do Bob. My bottle sits in front of the fuse box beside the battery and tapped it into a vacuum line near the intake manifold.

Drill and mount the bracket, fill and fit the bottle, cut vacuum line and fit T piece. I think the book says the bottle has to be mounted lower than it's pick up point (please check) Make sure the vacuum line sucks into manifold first to ensure you have the right one. Adjust it and that's it, Bob's your Uncle....(I'm sure your sick of hearing that)... he he.

How long does a bottle last?

About 500 litres of gas I think, you adjust the drip rate to achieve target.

Their is a viewing glass to see the drip rate. Basically 1ml for every litre of fuel. So if you fill with 50 litres check the bottle to see if you used 50 ml. If not just turn the adjusting screw for greater or less flow rate.

Bottle holds 400ml or 500ml so 4-500 litres of fuel.

They also sell an electronic version with on dash low oil warning light and electronic adjustment.
