G'day!

My name is Dave and yes I drive a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara :D

I have found myself on the forum because I am the manager of a small indendant servo in the town of Emerald in the Dandenong Ranges of Melbourne and we do the fleet service for the William Adams Field Service Vehicles which are all Nissan Patrols. They are a mix of new ZD30's and older TD42's.

I am an active member on another suzuki based forum and have found that the knowledge base of the member to be incredible and valuable in avoiding pitfalls when work out wierd shit that sometimes goes wrong when working on cars.

So the main reason I am here is to tap into the knowledge base that is the members on the forum because I am certain that if it has happened to one of the vehicles that gets brought into my workshop then it has definatly happened to someone else and they know how to fix it :D

Cheers

Dave

Well they are, lo range ability and separate chassis make them reasonably capable off road. At the time they were well ahead of the AWD group such as rav4 and crv's they seemed to be placed with.

Hey twase.

Mate I was actually joking, the first 4by I had was a 96 Vitara 2litre V6 2 door, and mate there wasn't too many places it couldn't go, it had a 2" lift and bigger wheels and tyres,

It actually gave a few mates rigs a run for their money due to the fact that it was smaller and tighter turning circle.

Markseen the smiley, I had a 2005 v6 4 door from new, very impressed with it apart from the timing chain rattle repair bill.

welcome aboard mate that looks like oil mist there

I know. We pull all the air hose lines off. The air flow meter screen was spotless, the screen on the intake of the airbox had tiny bit of carbon on it but no oil in the line. Where does the mist come from, why is it there and how do I stop it :D

Cheers

Dave

I didn't think that there was anything wrong the motor :D Is there any difference between a Ryco and Genuine Nissan air filter? The vehicles have been getting genuine services up until now when we have taken over and I was wondering if that sort of clogging of a filter is 'normal' or 'acceptable' over 10,000k?

Some ryco filters are pre oiled anyway so you cant do much about it.. I service a 2010 zd30 trol ute that is loaded up that hard my 3ton molnar hoist cant lift it !!

twase
18th April 2013, 03:54 PM
If that filter is from the CAT service vehicle then it probably spends a bit of time on dirt and at road construction sites so it most likely is from its environment rather than any real problem.

bohuler
18th April 2013, 06:32 PM
That is what I was thinking twase in regards to the environmental factors blocking up the air filter. It is just ALOT of shiet to get on a filter in 10,000k :D
Alitis007 our hoist is a 3.5t hoist and it can't lift it :D The utes come in close on 5 tonne give or take 500kg when they are loaded up. We lift half at a time and even then we need to put stands and stuff under it to keep it safe.

Thats what we do lol. The owner of the ute is a rigger and has a F250 and after 10k both filters on both truck are BLACK filled with crap, back to this 2010 ute i work on, it carries 4T worth of tools and bolts. It had new leafs fitted after it left the factory with a 3t upgrade and bent them, and apparently has 5t leafs in it now and it sit level loaded up and BTW it splits LT tyres lol. It pulls harder then a stock 4.2td 100 series even tho its loaded up !!!

Welcome mate. Tough looking zuk..
Are these busses fitted with snorkels?
It is a down fall having the air pick up in the front corner so where these guys go is like bull dust tracks so yea that looks pretty normal.

If not fitted with a snorkel, fit them out.. turn the head backwards too as it does greatly reduce dirt intake if in a convoy.

Tuff looking hiab to for a Ute.. keep em coming though..

I have Dan from KPD4x4 coming up to visit us today to try and sell my boss the performance chips for the ZD30 patrols. Im also looking into a different bushing system for the rear leaves as with the weight in the utes they urethan bushes flog out way to quickly.

You want to make a bet?? They will flog out in 2/10th of f/all with all that weight on the back. We have an idea for replacement bushes that I will share once I have the engineer design and price it :D

I reckon some nice steel bushes will do the trick or even weld up the ends....:jawdrop:....it will last forever...lol

Not much option apart from heavy duty poly with that much weight.

Depends how they're set up. Unless your making a copper bush like the early MQ / MK anything you put will deteriorate unless you make chassis mounts with load springs on top on the normal leafs so the shackle bushes can function correctly, some off a light truck even ( if you have worked on ) the old F150 trucks that Aus post used to use and a few canters i work on have this twin spring setup.

Any more info on those copper bushes? We we going to go down the line of bronze bushes but if there is copper ones avalible that might be a better idea.

Your better off calling your suspension specialist like Pedders or Whiteline coz all i know is that they are available for some early models like 1977 Dodge canter, 1980 - 86 Patrols just to name a couple
