Got a second hand Aldi winch, have stripped it and serviced it. The brake assembly is running hot. It is an internal spring, friction type. Someone has already had it it in pieces. Does the spring need to be under slight pressure (Tightened slightly to create a smaller diameter) or are they supposed to drag on the brake a little?
