Can some one please explain
When I finally got my new radiator 2 things were different being on a tight schedule I decided to take the plunge and blank off one and just forget about the return 10,000 k's later and no drama's at all

just wondering what the blanked off outlet is for and how it works with no return ???

That radiator is for the model with the surge tank on the passenger side. Not having anywhere for the pressure to go from the expanded water means your putting a massive strain on your hoses and eventually one is going to give!

The one you blanked off on my 04 model is overflow back to bottle.

Edit just read Alitist, some how you'll need to join them as neatly as poss

How Bizarre!! What engine is that? the first pic is where my Top Hose is on a TD42 and do you have a Relief Bottle? how does that operate in your system is not from the radiator cap?

That radiator is for a manual right ?? I think i read in a post that Gaz wrote the other day. Plus if anyone payed attention to healys rig that is a 2000 model, manual and had the overflow on the passenger side. Either buy the surge tank or put the correct radiator in before it starts to cost you big $$$$

It's a 2001 gu111 4.8 Auto and has a return bottle on the passenger side

first pic with the original overflow bottle

The blanked outlet was there on my old radiator but molded closed thats why I blanked it ??

It looks like the radiator cap my have some form of pressure relief don't know a lot of ppl have had a look and scratch their heads
thats why I thought I'd ask lol

Could it be an incorrect tank top?

As Alitis says get the correct radiator or it may end in tears $$$$$$$

Just tap it back in with a T piece It will be fine. next time get the right radiator if you didn't install it then get the person to sort it out

I just found this article and feel a lot better now Very interesting and makes sense I'm not worried about a bit of coolant venting to atmosphere lol

But you have a recirculating cooling system eventually if the radiator cap is able to release any of the coolant, you will end up running your motor dry!

The only tank on mine is the one shown in the first pic in the second lot of pics ? no other tanks and apart from the trans cooler hoses on the bottom it only has the normal top and bottom hoses and the hose that used to connect to the filler bellow the radiator cap The reservoir tank is vented on the cap ?

That reservoir tank is is where the expanded water is supposed to go once the pressure exceeds 1.1bar or 15 psi,and once it cools the water is drawn back thru the cap. But on healys setup it has an extra tank plus that overflow bottle ( just for air bleeding and to stop the water surging ) that connects to the part you have blocked off.

To cut a long story short, for the health of your motor and wallet i would sort the cooling system out by either fitting that surge tank setup or with the correct top tank. You should be able to get the top tank changed for roughly $150 or go back and get the proper one.

Ok not realizing that the cap had a separate low pressure return valve in the centre had me (I admit) confused how the coolant returned to the radiator knowing that now I will figure out how I can resolve the problem

Many thanks to every one for their input
It is greatly appreciated
Cheers Gaz
