I have been enjoying reading people's build threads lately so I figured I would do my own. I bought my Patrol about 6 years ago and it was a fairly standard '95 TD42 with 350,000kms with a safari turbo kit, front mount intercooler and a long range tank.

Not long after I bought it if fitted a 2in body lift, 2in suspension lift and some 33in Baja Claws. This was my first trip to cruiser park:

Not long after that I upgrade to 5in lift and regular cruiser park trips resulted in the beginnings of panel damage and I realized the factory side steps were kinda useless.

So some protection was needed, I built myself a tube bullbar, chopped the rear quarters and built a rear bar and bought some sliders nice and cheap.

I also got a small roof basket, some spot lights and a set of 34" Jungle Trekkers. Around this time my claws wore out so I got some 35" Micky Thompson FCII's. The bigger tyres needed a bit more power so off to get a dyno tune and add a bit more boost, up to 12psi. 122HP on 35s. :)

Not long after I bought a Sierra play truck and car trailer so work on the Patrol slowed for a while.

On the inside I have got boost, water temp and EGT gauges. I have set my pyro up so that it also works as my turbo timer, the car won't shut down until the EGTs reach a set temp.

I have also got cruise control, a small digital volt meter in the factory clock slot, a battery monitor for my dual battery system and a GME UHF has replaced the ash tray. For my stereo I have a pioneer 7in touch screen with iPod interface, I have a iPod stashed behind the dash, 6in splits in the front, 6in two ways in the barn doors and 2 x 12in subs. There are two amps mounted in the back for the subs and the splits.

I have mounted 2 extra cig plugs in the front that run straight from the aux battery. These plugs are from BCF and line up perfectly with the factory center console screws. :) (please excuse the scotch lock, it will be removed as soon as I get the chance)

18 months ago the wife and I took a three week trip up to cook town and back, the original plan was to go to the tip of cape york but all our mates pulled out of the trip so we decided on the shorter trip. I fitted some draws, a drop down table on the barn door and some LED light strips for the trip. I found some small round switches at d-i-c-k smith that fit perfectly on the sill of the barn door.

12 months ago, with the impending arrival or out first child, I sold the Sierra and trailer so we could buy a bigger car for the missus, a KTM 300exc for me and I 'invested' the rest in the patrol. I got a factory rear locker, front air locker, roof console, tradesman style roof rack, water pump and heat exchanger for a shower, 50L water bladder, LED light bar, tube style winch bar and a eBay winch.

Some where along the line I sold my 35" FCII's for some 33" BFG AT's on alloys.

October last year saw us up Fraser Island for 10 days. I had removed the rear bar and sliders to paint them but ran out of time before the trip. At the time of the trip I had not installed the lockers. While up there my rear pinion bearing collapsed and the alternator decided to throw in the towel. Made it home no worries, and that is why I love my Patrol. They never say die.

Me and the young fella on his first camping trip.

Since Fraser I have installed the rear locker and put some 4" suspension stuff flexy rear coils and Dobinson 4" front coils. Just before Xmas I hurt my back and have not been able to work or work on the car since so progress has stopped for now. I had surgery about a month ago so am on the recovery path now.

On the immediate to do list is:

Paint and refit sliders and rear bar.

Front swivel hub/bearing rebuild and install the front locker. (The locker is mounted in a spare center I just need to get someone to set the backlash and preload)

Fit my adjustable upper control arms.

Get some HD lower control arms to replace my adjustable ones.

I have got another 55L water tank so I want to remove the two subs, fit the water tank in their place as I have a slim 12in sub to fit somewhere to replace them.

Incab winch controls for the winch.

Wind the boost up to 15psi and have a bit of a play with the IP. See if I can squeeze a bit more out of the old oil burner.

And most importantly, get out and do some driving.

Further down the track I would love to fit a set of reduction gears. I had them in my Sierra and they are amazing!
