Hi all, i went down to supercheap and the ryco booklet said my 89 diesel mav needs z170 oil filter, yet a 89 diesel gq takes z115's. z170 was $25 each vs z115 $13 each, I thought they are the same block, what the? Please help

The previous owner has two Donaldson p557780 on it

Also the z115 are like 1 1/2 times the size of the z170's

DO NOT USE Z9!!! although it may screw on.. ITS A 3/4 SAE THREAD AND THE NISSAN Z115 AND Z170 ARE 19MM,z170 is a short version of the z115 the z170 is use for clearance issues when height is a problem ( the only time a z9 would be seen on a nissan would be if a universal oil filter relocation kit is used , they commonly spin on z9, purely as an availability thing)

Thank you, out of curiosity what sort of mods would you have to impact clearance issue on the oil filters

my guess would be pwr steer or oil cooler , i did parts for 10 years but ive been out a while so the memory is a little vague on some details, but if there is room use the z115 , ive used both z115 and z170 on my l serires blubird over the years with no ill effects, just for interest sake the z9 mentioned earliar has the same shorter counter part, the z89a , so the interchange thing is nothing new , the thing to be sure of is o ring size and shaft thread and to a lesser extent by pass presure, most of this info can be found in the back of the ryco catalouge , if you can decypher it (-;
