Can someone provide any info on the right hand side model? It looks like a military type.

I have the original road report on this Nissan Patrol in an old Wheels magazine. makes interesting reading. June 1958 I think
it was a Nissan Patrol and not a Datsun, can win a few bets with this one

Heres some stats on it, cost 1300 pound or $1950. originall they came to Aust for the Mobilgas around Aust rally.
body was 18g steel sheet in gun metal duco, motor produced 105bhp @3600, bore 3 3/8th" x 41/2" stroke.
6 cyl, compression of 6.8 to 1. 4 speed box no syncro on first. Ratios are first 6.52, second 3.40 third 1.81 and top 1 to 1 .
cruise happily at 60mph. cargo area is 50" x 40" with rear seats folded. spare mounted to a heavy bracket off the rear.
2 glove boxes both not lockable, canvas roof and sides [canopy]. Quoted from WHEELS june 1959

Was it not for geology????
They would test out areas then have the hard task of meeting up with the other crews working there was across the desert/?

In 1958 they brought 2 over for the MOBILGAS Ralley, No mention of surveying or mining,
