Hi all,

Just bought a 1992 Patrol GR 2.8 DT HTP last summer in Holland, Now driving around in Bogotá. Found out that not many old diesels drive around here, so gotta do my own maintenance for the first time.

Just replaced the radiator after driving around with a banana in it for 2 months to plug the hole, worked pretty well though.

Since Bogotá is located at a height of approx. 2700 m (8100 ft) I do not think the combustion is as complete as it should be. Dark black smoke accomanies us when pulling up in a gear just too low.

Since a few weeks starting gets a bit more difficult, it used to be a turn of the key and she started but now white smoke and irregular running appears for the first 2 minutes or so. Reading around on the internet I figured it could well be the glow plugs, but I have not been able to check them, as I am not really a mechanic.

Hope to find some good advice here, nice to join you

Welcome Marinus,

It sounds like you are better at improvisation than me. I wouldn't have thought of the banana.
