There is a serious bush fire near Mirboo North about 10 km from my house. Supposed to head in this direction overnight. Went outside to feed the dogs and sky is glowing red and strong smell of smoke. Could even see ashes floating around.

To be honest I don't think we will be in much danger but you can never be over prepared for a fire, will be vigilante of course!

Few spots of rain in Melbourne just started.....not enough to put a fire out yet....

yeh seen that on the news earlier,

We woke up to our house stinking of smoke around 4am, the RFS has been doing hazard reduction burns in the near by areas for the last few days but didn't realise they were going to be burning all nigh long like last night, left for work at 6.10am and could not see 2 foot in front of me, it was that think with smoke.

Stay safe mate

Keep the radio on abc Winnie. With these winds it won't take long to travel 10km! Are you in a built up area?

I live in town but hard to call it a built up area. Surrounded by paddocks and bush land. Got stuff packed in the cars so we are ready to grab the dogs and leave if need be. Thorpdale has been placed on watch and act so we need to be prepared.

As soon as your placed on watch and act, just go mate! Don't leave it to chance. Also keep a constant eye on the visibility outside, as it may decline well before you receive the warnings.

Just went for a drive to the top of the hill and could see the fire. Don't think we will be in danger in town, too many paddocks and stuff around but we are on high alert.

That's okay we have plenty of family around that we can stay at if needed.

Big sigh of relief, mate. Being near an event such as that is a nerve wracking thing. This beautiful country has teeth.
