Hi all as some may now i recently installed a dts turbo kit on my gq last weekend. Now after taking it to mechanics to get the boost fitting fitted in the cross over pipe i finally have it running but to say i'm a bit disappointed in the performance is an understatement. It starts to boost around the 1800-2000rpm mark but from what i have before it should come on alot earlier then that am i correct. It hits boost then by 3000rpm its at full boost about 10-11psi. The fuel has been turned up a bit by the mechanic as well. It also sounds a bit weird at full boost almost like one of those old whistle kettles. I was expecting it to sound like my truck. Is that how its supposed to sound. If it is its different to what i was expecting. We are going away on friday so need it sorted asap.

Sounds to me that all is good in the world.

Correct. How low did you want boost to arrive? Turbo whistle is what 4.2's do and 2.8's will sound more truckish if you ave a full 3 inch exhaust

I thought it would come on round 1200-1400rpm.

Not sure about the 4.2 I have a 3ltr zd30 boost starts at 1600 ad peaks at 2500 for full boost and torque

Sounding like a kettle could also mean a boost leak. :)

im not sure if your pump is compensated but on my gu 4.2 the tuner got it to come onto boost 200 -300 rpm sooner with the correct fueling and that's over a factory turbo setup so their could be improvement to be had in the pump

Alright spoke to dts themselves and there confident i hav a leak as they reckon u should hardly hetr the turbo and it should start to come on boost between 1200-1500rpm not 1800

If i was to look for a leak where would i look first? I'm guessing it wouldnt b from the air filter intake to the turbo. It would have to be from the turbo to the intake manifold yes? So that would mean the hose that connects the cross over pipe to the turbo or where the cross over pipe meets the intake manifold of the manifold itself yes? i have ton ite to get this sorted so help would be greatly appreciated people. It make boos but as you drive along it loses the boost so doesnt hold boost like it should.

Id be ringing dts for their advice and try using soapy water from a squirt bottle to locate the leak.

Same here, never taken any notice of it and have a 3" straight through exhaust but mine sounds like a truck..........will see next time that I drive it but it won't be until after Easter as the Police seem to be targeting 4WDs here at the moment from what I have heard.

Got it sorted. Turns out i think it was 2 problems or one or the other. The gasket the mechanics put had no sealant, Also the bolts supplied to attach crossover pipe to the intake manifold were slightly to long and so even though they were tight they had actually bottomed out and not clamped properly. Some sealant and shorter bolts and hey presto.
