Ive got to install a water temp gauge in my td42 gq. I had a read and from what i can gather i can and should put the probe into the thermostat housing where the original one is. Question is what then do i do with the hose that commes from the top of the rad where the rad cap is? just block it of or whats the go. or should i put it somewhere else altogether?

You leave the hose and drill and tap a thread into the housing, thats the best way or you can buy and adaptor but i don't trust them. Use some hydraulic sealant on the threads to make it seal !

The hose already fits over a threaded fitting. i seen it done that way in another post on here.

You should be able to get a T-piece kind of adapter to connect it.
Use Loctite 567 or similar product and that will prevent leaks.
If you're too tight to buy it or can't get hold of any, use the standard thread tape.
I have cut a radiator hose and fitted an adapter as my brother wanted it that way in his car (a DIY kit).
I prefer not to do this as it then adds two more possible weaknesses.
