Hi guys. I'm about half way through my manual conversion and I have a few questions. I've removed the auto box and finally managed to get the manual one in but I was wondering what I have to do to get it started ? Something to do with the wires have to be crossed over because of the auto having to be in park to start ? An do I have to change the gauge cluster ? And another thing. I've put the front diff out of my old manual into the new one but the new one still has the auto rear diff. Will the rear diff have to be changed aswell ? I'm not sure if the ratios are different. If anyone can help me with this it would be great. Cheers

I'm not very knowledgeable in this area but:
Yep you'll have to do something to let the engine know it's ok to start. Are you fitting the computer out of the manual? This may fix the problem.
Yes, the diff ratios are different. (have a search on here for the ratios)Not sure what the real world differences would be but it's fairly important to keep the front and rear the same ratio.
Not sure what you mean about the gauge cluster? They would be the same from the manual to auto.
Hopefully someone comes along with a bit more info for ya mate

Yeah I thought I'd have to change the rear diff centre atleast. What do you mean by the computer ? And on the auto gauges it has different lights and stuff. Just wondering if there's a difference between a manual and auto one. Cheers

Patrols have computers. All petrols have an ecu (electronic control unit) and patrols with an automatic gearbox also have a tcu (transmission control unit) the tcu is located in the passenger footwell behind a cover basically next to the lower door hinge.

I'm not sure but I think the only difference with the auto gauge cluster is that it has a "power" light to indicate when in power mode and a "trans temp" light to indicate that the transmission is over heating

Where might I find the ecu ? And is it a straight bolt in system ?

There should be three plugs in the engine bay from the transmission wiring. One has two wires (grey plug it should be). just cross these wires and it will enable starting. you will also need to locate the wires to operate the reverse lamps. They are also in one of the plugs from the trans wiring harness.
The diff ratios are different. 4.1 for manual, 3.9 for auto so yes you will need to change both. the guages are same except the extra lights. They wont be a problem, just the trans temp light will light up when you turn on igntion but goes out when engine starts. I have not seen the power light come on so I guess it was disconected when i removed the trans wiring. If the trans temp annoys you just pull the cluster apart and remove the bulb. I hope this helps! there is a great sticky thread on this forum with pics detailing this conversion.

Thanks mav I think I got enough info to get it happening. Let you know how I go. Cheers

Another thing. Do I need to change the whole diff or just the centre ?
