as per title, ive heard tyre shops say, change to an a/t tyre and you will get better fuel economy????
just wanna hear from gq drivers with similar rig setups if they have experianced it for them self???
before i go and fork out the cash for at tyres if theres no real economy improvment i have a td42, turbo, 13psi, 33" mt tyres, 4.3 ratios, snorkle, fmic, 4" lift, 3" exhaust....
getting an average 14.3ltr per 100kms...was 15.4ltr per 100kms with 4.1 ratios.
let us no if you changed tyres and if your economy changed?????? cheers.

Dan,

What do you want the tyres to do.....80% Offroad - 20% Offroad.? Is fuel saving the most paramount thing to you?

With the change from standard tyres to MTR's, I added around 1 litre per hundred to the fuel use, so theoretically you could save anywhere up to 1 litre per hundred, depending on the tyre.

It all goes hand in hand mate. Gain maybe 1 ltr / 100, then loose it again with 100kgs of gear in the back or a roof rack..
I think if your worried about fuel savings v tyre type, you may have bought the wrong car..
Sure we try and get good figure, but you think, 1 ltr / 100 might get you $6 per tank... I can do without that beer if I'm going to have more fun out bush...

Hey mate - as Westy said - depends on what you're looking for? If its economy then the 'troll a'int your friendliest ride. But if you're looking for a capable vehicle then put on the wheels/tyres that will accomplish what you are looking to achieve. With a 4" lift you have a more than capable off-road car..... putting on A/Ts in my opinion would be a waste. You mention MTs? What type? Also - what kind of driving do you do?

I think you've done dam well to get to 14 ltrs / 100. Running 33's and a 4" lift I don't think you'll get much better..
I'm only getting 13.5 on 31atr's and a 3" lift on a td42 na..

To add to Westy's post - on a GU8 3 litre I'm getting about 11-12L per 100 - so I think you're doing OK! Sure I've got 33" 4 rib Bajas on her - if I put the 31"s back on sure I'd get better economy - but so would I if I pulled off the rack, bars, awning, bullbar, winch........

Horses for courses mate.

You would definitely get more k's out of a set of at's, and if you go a skinnier tyre it will help aswell. Seeing you have changed you diffs you'll be needing a set of 33" atr's. If you went to stock 31's then the trol will be over revving on highway.

The off road I do is mainly sand so I went for HTs the ride difference was significant and much better petrol consumption. Plus handles good in the wet. Not really into that whole macho look but I love driving it. It still retains that brutish, king of the road feel.

I have 2 sets... the A/T's I scored almost brand new on Range rover rims.... I sold the Rangie rims and a set of tyres cost me $200!!!!

BF Goodridge muds for play, takes me 15min to change at home.

As for a massive fuel saving I took my rear draws out the other day and my car is a rocket ship now... Rrrowh!!!!

Don't forget tyre pressure either. Running them hard will scrape a smidgen more economy out if them

Oh and Winnie and Jonathan, get a bloody room!

I had the wrangler mt they are a 70/30 really good off and on road if I had the coin I'd be getting them for my troll one of the better tyres on the market IMO

My A/t's are the Wrangler and I have not used them off road as yet??

I put on my km2's every time I go out.
