Forum to be upgraded this week - Discussions

Hi All,

Well the time has come unfortunately. It's not just the Pro Tips videos that's causing the issues It's also the resources needed to run the forum and we can't continue to run like this without being on our own dedicated server.

The forum is going to be moved onto It's own dedicated server. Most likely happening on Thursday night 7pm onwards and will take all night to migrate over.

I'm shipping bricks at this point and pray that all the data goes across. We have so many modifications so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

I'm paying a professional person with the hosting company to do this for us as I will surely stuff it!!!!

I will advise what night it is happening as soon as I know.....Prayers are welcome...lol

Hi AB - if you need someone to eyeball the plan and check nothing is missed let me know. I can also have some devs on standby if you need them in an emergency. We do stuff like this all the time!

Also - in terms of migration you can do a "make before break" move and that way you can have the new live environment setup and tested prior to the cutover - just means replicating the DB until shutdown and then only appending new data in the outage window. Saves a lot of time!

Thanks for your help Jas, yes I'm going to keep this DB going here until I am 100% happy with the new one. Thanks for your offer mate, I really hope it goes smoothly....I'm getting anxiety already...lol

No stress, no preasure AB.

Just like Jas says. Setup your migration environment first and then cut over once you are happy. If you need a few "pre-testers" just sing out. Im sure you will get quite a few hands to help out, me included!

One thing I say to my users is ...... BACKUP!!

Make a copy of your DB and any settings configuration files (Even if you print them out and put them on your desk...) Store the DB in a place well away from the online environment just as a precaution.

Hey mate, I won't lie...lol It's going to kill any money made off the forum but I wan't to work towards possibly having a vendors sponsored section where vendors get their own personal forum to showcase their gear in their own section rather then a single category with all their posts getting lost.

Any other ideas are welcome too...

And I do like the idea of a dedicated server, not even going to ask the cost of that after you told me what the current plan is costing you....

It's actually not the manuals or the videos...Well the videos are munching the bandwidth but its more the resources needed for everyone to use the forum especially at peak times which is killing us.

Sponsor vendor section bout time AB. Selling wares for free while you pay the advertising costs is ripping you. Pay up to sell up.

And mate, seriously, stop this self sacrifice thing and cover costs properly by way of forum membership. Put a realistic price on it. You don't need the numbers any more.

$30 per month for a Vendor Sponsorship which gives you your own vendors forum in the vendor section. It will stay at the top the whole time with your own section to post as much as you want and your own logo displayed on the forum category, etc along with the signature, etc.

I just need to find a proper vendors plug in, someone has surely done this before!!!

Mate. Was talking to Darren about this very issue last week when he dropped a line.. those prices are f-in cheap...
I mentioned to him the price to get thread based advertising on anther well known patrol forum.. its 3 figures, and starts with a 3... And you still get lost in the soup...
Mate, ill be becoming a sponsor this week again after talking to Darren because what you have done for us is a huge step up into the market, and at those prices will continue to help out...
Sounds like some great ideas coming together...

And Jas, what the hell do you do for a living...? The only thing I can think of is bikie war lord... :p
